This country....
Well, yes I have been worried the last couple of days.. Not loosing sleep, just worried.. I have a decent savings bundle, and I fear it is getting more and more worthless by the day. I see the pound getting weaker and weaker by the minute, and the government throwing money at problems, like they always do. Now, call me…

Potential bank scam
Just got a very odd phonecall from a withheld number this morning, with the girl claiming to be from 'my bank'. When I asked, she did know which bank it was (lloydsTSB), and the type of account I had, and that I had recently received money in from the FSCS (from Icesave) - and suggested that I wasn't making the most of it…

Where to put my Icesave ISA.
I've been looking for somewhere to put my Icesave ISA, with rates likely to drop further I'm wondering whether in my case it's worth even keeping an ISA going. At the end of October I opened an account with Coventry BS paying a rate of 6.25% fixed for 12 months, with this account paying 5% after tax, I would find it hard…

Student Money
I need to know a good place for my daughter to put her money. She opened 3 cash isa's over the past 3 years with her student loan but now they are paying less interest than the 3.8% she is paying on her loan. She has isa's to the value of about 10k but at present owes 13K and looks like at present she is only receiving…

When does a tracker start tracking ........
The Nationwide 1 Year Tracker – as I understand it starts its life at the advertised rate, currently 6.25% for investing £1-£9,999 and moves up/down (tracks) the BOE rates. When does it start tracking given that the summary box says “Effective from 17 October 2008 “ If I open one this week, they can subject to notice drop…

Egg Savers - did you receive Rate Change Notification?
As Egg Savers will know, Egg reduced their savings rate (the +bonus rate) by the full 1.5% on (I think) 14th November. They didn't send me an email notification, which rather caught me hopping, as I remained in blissful ignorance for more than a week. They claim - rather curtly and tetchily - that they actually did send a…

Icesave maturity date before 2nd e-mail
I have a 6 month fixed term savings account with interest paid on maturity, the maturity date being 15/11/08. 2nd email received today - 10 days after maturity date. The interest added to my account I am pretty sure equates to 07/10/08(default date) I think that I should have received the full 6 months interest as the…

ISA or child savings account
I'm just looking at changing my savings accounts. Currently I save £45 per month each for my two children. Do you think I should open a 10% Halifax Child Savings Account or do you think using an ISA is best? I don't quite know how to calculate how much this earns me (through tax free savings) from an ISA so don't know how…

SELFTRADE Are these people trustworthy ?
Looking at their corporate / bank bond lists one immediately notices only one price is given. No bid/offer info. Also they do not seem to welcome email enquiries. Anyone with any experience of this Co. mentioned a few times in passing on this forum but not in relation to actual experience with their corporate bond pricing…

Good News email from FSCS
Just received this email, just in case some have not, key text follows .... we suggest that you check your account online once a day at a similar time to see whether your account can be initiated. If it can, this would indicate that your second email has been sent but you have not yet received it. If you find you can…

A relative has savings spread around which have increased largely recently due to house sale. These (below) are the holdings. She wants to keep savings for about 18 months before buying another house. Any critique welcome of the savings strategy. Any better accounts? Attitude to risk = nil so no shares. You can see ICELAND…
