Money Splurging Expert?
Hi all, Although this is a money saving website, I thought I'd start a light-hearted thread about the things people are happy to splurge on, despite the fact that you know you can get something similar for cheaper elsewhere. So what're your money splurging vices? I'll start the ball rolling and admit that my partner and I…

Savings account with Jam Jars
I am looking for an online savings account that will let me create little jam jars or pots within the one account that i can label 'holiday' 'car' etc etc. These are short term savings so interests rates are not my main concern; its more the ability to get organised. This 'jam jar' facility does not seem to be something…

Term deposits - act today!
I've been eyeing up these term deposits from Clydesdale Bank, since the BoE rate is now so low, and could go even lower: 18 months - 6.05% 2 years - 6.05% 3 years - 6.10% As I'm awaiting funds to be released for Icesave compensation from FSCS, I was worried that these rates would be pulled before I get the money. I called…

Under 18 Savings account
Hi, Can anyone recommend a savings account for my 16 year old daughter? She has just started working and wants to save for a car, but all the highest interest paying accounts seem to be for over 18s. Thanks in advance.

ICESAVE - FSCS Update 10 November
There is a new update on the FSCS website - sorry if posted elsewhere but did not see it First Icesave emails out (10 November) FSCS is working hard to prepare the accelerated payout process. The first emails to UK customers of Icesave (which explain how the process will work) have gone out over the last few days and many…

Icesave / TalkTalk / FSCS Fiasco
What an absolute shambles. To summarise: The FSCS has used a bunch of amateurs to send out 200,000 emails when the situation calls for letters which is far more secure. I used to be a Postie and whatever people might think the Royal Mail are very reliable at delivering letters. However the chosen method is email. Surely…

Passport Scheme. Is it backed by governments?
I thought that the passport scheme was a guarantee that the home country of a bank would guarantee the first ~20k euros. How they did this was up to them (i.e. ante or post funding), but ultimately it was backed by a government guarantee. So, as long as you don't mind a possibly longer wait, and as long as the country…

More than one fixed rate account in one place
Is it possible to have more than one fixed rate account in say BM or Saga or Halifax. We have some money available now (or expect to by Monday) to open an account(if still available.) Then, if the offer still stands a few days later, get another open, or beter, add to the first account. The indication is that "to take full…

What happens if you claim your Icesave money before you get the e-mail?
I notice that the Icesave website is back up and running, and there's an option to initiate the claim. What happens if you click this even though you haven't got the second e-mail?

Any decent 1-yr fixed bonds left paying monthly interest?
I've already got BM & B&B maxed to £50k so I'm now looking for some others. It's v important that it has a monthly interest option. The Coventry BS Poppy Bond still seems to be open but can't see many more that are paying 6%+?

Halifax web saver reward penalty
I was one of those people who opened the variable web saver reward account back in August, as the account was the same as the normal variable web saver but with better rate. However, I look at the terms and conditions today and it says you are only allowed 4 withdrawals otherwise the rate will revert back to the normal web…

Nationwide slash savings rates
I notice that nationwide have taken the full 1.5% off their fixed rate bonds. Obviously they're not looking to get too much money in because there's still plently of banks giving a lot higher rates than that! Also notice they've changed their motto to "Proud to be a building soceity" from "Proud to be different." Any…

Can anyone help with this?
Does anyone know how I can get a copy of the application form for the Close Brothers 7% savings account? The forms have been withdrawn from the website, but I understand that the money has to be put in by tomorrow. I was planning on doing this tomorrow. Do you think that I can do it there? What will I need? Thanks very…

Bonds now closed BUT what if you have 'applied' already?
As soon as I heard of the interest rate cut, I called National Counties and Julian Hodge and they both sent me forms for their fixed rate bonds (one year, monthly interest). I sent them off yesterday with cheques but they both now seem to have withdrawn them. Will they accept my funds? Does simply asking for forms mean…
