Fairly straight forward question....I think!
OK this probably isn't a straight forward question but I have some savings (no debts or mortgage) and want to find a good IFA. The question is, where do I look? I have absolutely no clue about this so would appreciate some good advice. Thanks.

National Savings
Hi there, I am looking to put some money into NS, but in the write up including this web site it states the following, Index Linked Savings offering to pay 1% more than inflation. It uses the higher measure, Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation, at 5%, meaning it pays 6% overall. Anyone on basic rate tax would have to be…

Opening an account with Kaupthing Edge
Having taken Martins advice on a savings account with a good interest rate my husband and I both decided to open accounts. Today we recieved an e-mail congratulating us on our successful applications, however in order to complete the process we were asked to provide a copy of our passport photo page or photo driving…

Should I move my savings?
I was thinking about the money I have in savings at the weekend and think I have made a bit of a mistake for the past few years. When I turned 18 I was forced to move the money out of my high interest young savers account and was recommended to put it into a Cash ISA. However, as I do not work (I am a student) and so do…

Real time prices.
Hi, Is there any benefit to subscribing to real time share prices. I trade 10-15 times per month and use 15 min delayed data from Yahoo Finance. I occasionally day trade and wonder whether it's more targeted to that. Would it help? Secondly, should I receive interest or dividends through the broker if I purchase shares?…

Isle of Man Compensation / Offshore
Hi, About the Isle of Man and their compensation scheme.... there's a few things I don't understand... http://www.fsc.gov.im/investor/dep_comp.xml So if an Isle of Man bank goes bust then (in theory) up to £20,000 of your assets are covered at a rate of 75%, leaving a maximum due to you of £15,000 pounds, which could take…

I’m Confused about Isa’s
I’m Confused about Isa’s I get the general idea of them but it’s the difference between cash and investments that gets me. I understand £3,600 can be cash and the other £3,600made up of other investments. Do these have to kept in one ISA that can manage both cash and investments? Or can I have two separate Isa’s and just…

Halifax. Hero to zero.
Following my OH's successful transfer of a cash ISA (rare in our experience) to Halifax I decided to follow. Big mistake. I applied for the fixed rate ISA at my local branch, when the rate was 6.2% and was told that rate would be variable until funds were transferred and then become fixed at that day's rate. Always seems…

Can I avoid tax on interest?
I am sure there is a rule against this but I thought I would ask... My wife doesn't earn anything (zero income) but I obviously do. Can I put all our savings into her name (her own personal bank account) and thus not pay tax? I guess there must be some rule about being married to not allow this. Can anyone give me some…

moving money from abroad
Apologise if this thread causes controversy... A friend needs to move a large amount of money over from India but wants to avoid paying tax on it. Basically his parents bought land and a flat in India in the 1980's with a view to retiring back there once they reached 60. Plans changed and the flat and land are no longer…

Best regular saver?
Hi I started my limited company 6 months ago so I'm putting aside 20% of all income for tax but I don't know where's best to save it. My first tax demand will be January 2010 for this year, by which time I will have put aside about £15K for 2008/2009 and about the same for 2009/2010. What would be the best saving vehicle…

Tesco Savings On Line Access

Is anybody else having a problem or am I doing something wrong. The log on process seems far from straight forward. Thanks Martin

Barclays Investments that Protect Money from Being Used for Nursing Care?
I have been helping my mother-in-law (with the help of this site) to decide where to save some money that she has. Anyway, yesterday she went to Barclays - which is where she has had her current account for years - to see if they had any accounts that would offer her a decent savings rate. We have chatted about this and I…
