Opening an account with Kaupthing Edge

Options
Having taken Martins advice on a savings account with a good interest rate my husband and I both decided to open accounts. Today we recieved an e-mail congratulating us on our successful applications, however in order to complete the process we were asked to provide a copy of our passport photo page or photo driving licence, along with either an original bank statement, or original credit card statement or a utility bill. All this seems fine until you are then asked to send all this extremely personal information to: Freepost Kaupthing Edge. This worries us as it does not appear to be a secure way of sending such information. Its not traceable if it gets lost and then what you have done is provide the identity fraudsters with all the info they need about you.
Is this really normal acceptable practice?

  • I'm sure the Freepost address is just as reliable for normal mail as a street address. If you want to send it by registered post, etc, to a street address then I'm sure you can do that too - I think it was posted on these forums a while back but I can't find it now.
Give them a call and ask them, I doubt it would be a problem....

I have an account with them and have had excellent service so far.

Didn't need to send anything off and when I called their helpline it was answered on the first ring :O

Send it 'Recorded' - if you're concerned. But it makes no difference if you do that to the Freepost or the more normal address. All delivered on the same Royal Mail van ..... just separated for admin purposes. The Special Delivery stuff would normally go into them with the 2nd post later in the morning.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • Loads of personal sensitive information is sent my normal mail every day. eg credit card pin numbers & health information.

How would the postman know there is a photocopy of a passport in that letter? Remember he already knows your name and address and probably knows you like astronomy so your bank password would be astronomy based.

When my wife opened an account, we sent these documents to the Freepost address without issues.

As others have said, you receive credit cards and PIN's via post.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Pretty normal request from KE, some people get asked to verify their details, others don't.

KE like all banks have to comply with Anti-Money Laundering Regs therefore they require your details. If you don't send them, they won't open your account.

I sent mine to the freepost address, no problems whatsover !
