Pay off mortgage or invest?
I'm paying an interest-only mortgage of £29,000 at 6%. I will shortly have access to £29000 in cash. I was going to pay off the mortgage, but now I'm beginning to think I should invest the cash in a one-year bond at 6.8% which I reckon would make me better off by over £200 in the year. Are there any flaws in my thinking?…

Monthly Interest?
I can only find accounts that pay interest annually. Are there any savings accounts that pay interest monthly so that I could drop in a lump sum of about £5000 and maybe add to it each month myself?

NS&I Income Bonds
Please could anyone tell me if I was to put £140,000 into an NS&I Income Bond, would the full amount be protected by the Government? I keep reading that you should not put more than £35,000 into any one bank but does that rule still apply with NS&I? Many thanks.

I would…

Don't understand inflation - please help!
Ok inflation as far as I see is when the cost of living goes up? I don't understand what it means in terms of savings though. Does it mean that if you put £5000 in the bank in 1990, that £5000+interest would buy less today than it would in 1990? If so, are savings accounts not good? Sorry to sound thick, I have no idea…

Just a pointer to a company I heard about on Moneybox yesterday: The Trustee Deposit Service - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/moneybox/7354268.stm . Apparently they offer a service to spread your money around different accounts to keep you always under the 35k protection limit. The good news: They choose the highest…
