A Warning!!

Options
I have received two e-mails this week, from 2 separate banks. Both within 2 days. Stating that my account would cease, and to log in. Both have had the banks heading at the top

One of the banks advised me to send it to their fraud office.

Be warned

It's certainly good practice to always ignore links in your emails, and to go via a route you know is legitimate. That way you'll never end up the victim of that sort of Phishing attack.

these emails have been going around for several years now.... frankly you're wasting your time doing anything other than deleting them.

Having said that, Nationwide have this on their website:
Remember that Nationwide will never ask you for personal details in an e-mail. If you receive a mail purporting to be from Nationwide (a phish e-mail) asking for this information then please forward it to us at phishing@nationwide.co.uk. We will not be able to reply individually to these e-mails but every e-mail forwarded to us will be investigated and steps will be taken to close down the fraudulent banking site as quickly as possible.

any half decent spam filter will automatically remove them. My inbox gets a load of these daily but the spam filter means I never see them.

Get yourself a spam filter and remember that the banks will never ask you to login to certain link posted in an email address. Also, you can spot the fake emails faily easily. The images in them will usually be linked to an image from their homepage (not the case with a genuine emais). The spelling is usually American and the wording is not what you would expect from a British bank. Plus, when you hover over the link given in the email you should see the real address which is nothing like the bank's website address. Some email programs will detect phishing links like that for you.

These are the first 2 Emails ive had from banks.. And as im not fully conversant with computers being a pensioner, not been brought up with them and I havent got an online account. I thought it only right to warn people on my Forums...If my sons hadnt forwarned me a few years ago, I may have been tempted to log in.

And if we can help, and save one person, then all has been worth it!

It might be old, but it still keeps coming in all guises and a lot of newbies might not know. Last week I nearly got caught with one 'purporting to come from Egg, only cos I checked via their secure messaging system I found out it was a scam.

Oh you've won. You just have to send me your user details and passwords to at least 3 banking institutions where you have savings of at least £10000 and I'll deposit the money for you!
