Short Term Savings Account
We often have small amounts (up to approx £300) available for a few weeks. Rather than just leaving it in our current account, is there anywhere we can put this money to gain a few pounds interest? We have savings accounts, but they are more longer term and tied savings. Short of placing it on a short odds horse in the 3…

ICICI and Icesave question
I have an ICICI account and am comparing it with Icesceave in terms of interest. I know that it is AER that is the important rate to look at. ICICI pay their interest monthly but if I leave the interest in the account am I right in assuming that at the end of the year I will have the same total amount of money as if I had…

Coventry Building Society FR Bonds
Their fixed rate bonds look attractive. However, the terms and conditions say that, if you close the account at the end of the term (rather than transfer to another Coventry account), it is treated as a withdrawal and you lose three months interest. This seems bizarre. Do they really penalize savers in this way?

Birmingham Midshires Internet Saver
This account looks rather promising, 5.00% and it looks like I can open an account (I'm 16). Question is, since it's essentially a subsidary of HBOS, would transfers between it and my Bank of Scotland account be quicker than to any other bank account? (I know transfers between BOS and Halifax accounts are instant as long…

Rules for discussing investment and other products in the Forum Recently I’ve had some complaints about differences of opinion over ‘good and bad advice' on these boards. It’s made me do some thinking and I wanted to write this note so everyone knows what the official MoneySavingExpert.com position is on this, and what is…

Icesave - advice from users of this account
I am tempted to open an Icesave account and indeed started to do so before backing out mid way. My concern is this. I reached a point in applying where Direct Debit instructions to Icesave were mentioned. I use Internet banking with my current account and there is no DD involved. That is, I can log into my current account…

I've had a online saver with A&L for about a 1 and a half years now. They pop up quite a lot on this site, but to me there is a side to them I wished I had been warned about.
