Reusing & Cleaning Glass Bottles with stoppers
I've recently started making my own fermented drinks and now want to re-use some old Olive Oil bottles with rubber stoppers I have. What is the best way to clean them to ensure they are sterile. I've soaked and shaken with washing-up liquid and pored in boiling water - is that sufficient or should I add a few drops of…

Stardrops Pink Paste
Well, as a Stardrops fan, sometimes that lovely non-abrasive non-streaky clean-everything bottle of orange glee doesn't quite do everything - so when you need a bit of abrasion I've found in the pound shop their product called PINK PASTE and for 100 pence it goes on for ever, kind of like super-concentrated cream cleaner /…

Weekly Flylady Thread 8th January 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Ok I’ve been gluten free for a couple of months and it’s made a huge difference to my health and medical condition. Howerever im now getting a bit bored and buying ‘special’ stuff is expensive! I’ve never been a great baker - I can cook but baking is a whole different area for me. I’d like to make a GF pizza doh or a loaf…

Does anyone have any receipes for healthy cereal type bars? Every time I try to make them they end up crumbling. I buy Alpen Light bars to have for my breaks at work but its like eating fresh air! I would rather persevere and do my own but I never seem to have any success.

Small amount of oxtail what can i do with it
Today I bought the remaining Oxtail at the supermarket butchers counter cos it was reduced - but its only a couple of chunks (200g) - any tips for what I could do with it? There's two of us (but OH has a big appetite) - I did find an oxtail ragu / pasta recipe that sounded quite nice and thought maybe i could just make it…

Monthly meal plans
Hi . I am keen to reduce my food bills and know from reading on here that meal planning is a good way to achieve this. I was wondering if anyone who creates monthly meal plans would be willing to share them on here? I have to create gluten-free meals as my DS has Coeliacs but that doesn't matter too much in respect of…

Good Waitrose buys
Hello all, I have been given £50 of John Lewis vouchers, and I am thinking of using them at Waitrose instead, to save some cash on my grocery budget. The only problem is that I have never shopped there before. Does anyone have any recommendations on good/good value buys there? I think the meat and fish are supposed to be…

Suggestions please
I went to put towels in the washer tonight and discovered to my horror black mould, despite the door seal being dried and the door left ajar. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it without having to replace the seal??? The last time I had a seal replaced on my old washer it cost me over £100!!

Old style cheesecake recipe required
Back in the 60s when cheesecake first started appearing in mainstream shops, I used to get one that was very creamy to taste but with a solid, dense texture. It also had sultanas and was on a biscuit base. I think it came from a deli somewhere in or around Paddington. Nowadays cheesecake recipes emphasise how light they…
