Reusing & Cleaning Glass Bottles with stoppers

I've recently started making my own fermented drinks and now want to re-use some old Olive Oil bottles with rubber stoppers I have. What is the best way to clean them to ensure they are sterile. I've soaked and shaken with washing-up liquid and pored in boiling water - is that sufficient or should I add a few drops of Miltons? I need them spotless inside.

If they still feel a bit greasy, vinegar in with washing up liquid and a good scrub with a bottle brush should work. Soaking afterwards in Milton will be fine if you need them sterile.

Great, forgot about vinegar - perfect thank you
  • VWP powder is great but not the cheapest. Cheap solution would be to hand wash well then use a Milton tablet to make up a solution and soak them for the required time.

what have you got brewing I have some orange and cranberry wine, vimteo wine and some turbo cider.
