Buy/make 'pirate chests' for storage
I want to buy/make some unglamorous 'pirate chest' storage boxes to put my posessions in (my freeholder's roofspace) while I'm travelling for a couple of years. I have checked out the price of commercial storage and it is just RIDICULOUS. I figure I can do a DIY version - I can clear permission for access with my…

Cleaning a really dirty wood floor
Hi all. I'm sure there is a thread on this that I can't find and this will be added to it (thanks mods in advance ). Moved to a new house with a wood floor in the kitchen which I was so delighted to see. Since moving a few weeks ago I have only hoovered it and gone over it quickly with the mop. The house is clean looking…

Replacing calorie-controlled supermarket ranges with OS cooking
So, here's a meal planner, made up almost entirely of pre-prepared supermarket ready meals: http://health.marksandspencer.com/our-health-ranges/count-on-us M&S claim they can make macaroni cheese for 338 calories, four cheese ravioli for 352 and chicken pizza for 370, to name but a few. I've tried some of their ready meals…

How do you store your recipes?
I have an embarrassingly huge stack of cookery books, all of which have been bought on a whim :o I probably use / will use one or two recipes at the most from each book, so I'm thinking of copying these out and then selling / donating the books. The problem is that I'm a rather disorganised person and so I need a really…

70's Recipes
I've just been delving through a box of recipe cards that I've had since the 70s. (Boldly emblazoned with a picture of a stew pot of 'exotic' veg like red peppers, yellow pea pods and asparagus tips and the exciting title of 'Here's What's Cookin' ;) ) I was surprised to see how pretentious we were with the naming of food…

Aspergers and work
Hi apologies if this is in the wrong place, hoping someone on here might be able to help. I have also posted on the disability forum but this is my 'home' forum. After a bit of advice more on behalf of my bf than for me. My bf has aspergers, he's 26 and quite smart. He has a BA in cinematography and has a passion for…

Terrified
I'm absolutely terrified of the mew budget cuts next year associated with child tax credits. So this week I'll be looking again at my budget and where I can save. Being a single parent and sole earner is absolutely frightening me. I don't want to let my kids down

Raspberries in less-likely liqueurs
Today's 700 gms are waiting and in shed no.1 I have odd bottles to play with: Asbach. Grila Extra Oyzo,[presumably ouzo, so aniseed-based, pastis-like?] Imperial Bianco, Porto Barros - 1979 vintage Shall I try rasps with these? Proportions? For how long? Any other ingredients?

Cleaning Pillowcases with Hair Product
Hi all, Quick OS question I'm sure someone will know the answer to... I shower in the morning so usually I go to bed still with hair products in my hair (I'm male, so wax and hairspray). When I wash my bedding, even the longer washes don't remove all of these products so the pillowcases get build up with it... Doesn't look…

Am I too young for the WI? (Womens Insitute)
I have just the WI (women’s Institute) through a friend of mine who works at my local spiritualist church. I am in my late twenties and I have a lot of respect for the WI and I like what it represents etc. I am the youngest member, a lot of them are of retired age etc. My cousin and her friends make fun of me because of…

Best way to clean floor of walk-in shower
I now have a massive walk-in shower and it doesn't feel that safe to clean the floor (ceramic) of it by doing it the way I have been - ie on hands and knees with the cream cleaner. It gets rather slippy to say the least. I've learnt its best to clean inside of shower cubicle first and then shower myself for the day whilst…
