O/S Daily Wednesday 23rd September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now just getting light, dry and cloudy – at least its drying up after all the rain yesterday. I have a basket full of washing to put out on the line, I’ll do that shortly.

DH up and gone to work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was bacon, mushroom and pepper frittata, which was lovely but I overcooked it so the bottom was a bit burnt! – I struggled to get the top to cook so then had the thought to put the pan in the oven just to finish off – and it worked really well – thinking I could actually cook it in the oven and not bother with the hob as the heat under the pan is too intense so the bottom just burns and the top is still raw, the pan I have is all metal so is ok to go in the oven – as long as you don’t put it in the oven and use an oven glove to get it out and then forget and grab the handle – ouchy! I served the HM coleslaw, pasta salads, cous cous and skinny chips with it for the menfolk, I just had frittata, and salad. I remembered to get the pork steaks out to defrost – so I’ll oven bake those in stock and veg, then we’ll have mash, veg and gravy made from the meat stock.

Work yesterday was busy for a while and then very quiet, so don’t know what today will bring, but only working until lunchtime, then on days’ off. I need to get all the chores done.

Got the results of DS2’s blood tests yesterday after work and everything is normal with them, so good news, so just now waiting for the scan appointment and see if that shows anything.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Still dark outside so no idea what's happening.

Yesterday I got two loads of washing out into the sunshine and then it rained. Brought the washing in and the rain stopped and the sun came back out. Gggrrrrr.

I collected the bits from town and my chin is now smooth again. I cooked chicken thighs with chorizo and veggies and used up sausages with egg noodles.

Today is going to be an 'admin' day for sorting out paperwork and then I've got my two hour teaching session tonight. Will be coming home in the dark which creeps in.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Gers, my hubby thinks it so funny that I have to shave every day whereas he only shaves once or twice a week, he looks ok with a bit of designer stubble, I refuse to sport that particular look!
I'm off to work in a sec, hubby should be on earlies, but was taken ill yesterday morning, possibly labyrinthitis, so far he can't stop throwing up long enough to get to the Dr's.
My SIL should get the results of his brain scan today, so all in all it's going to be a stressful week.
Weigh in day today, I'm not expecting any weight loss, I eat when I'm worried.
    Have a good day everyone
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

Dry and brightish again (it's not really light yet). Not really enough washing for a load.

Didn't get in from my friends till 10pm, had a lovely catch up and she made a fantastic pizza. Not seen each other for a year or so, really good to see her again, hopefully we'll not leave it so long next time.

Salad for lunch, not sure what's for tea. Need to do another hours painting tonight as none done last night.

    Enjoy Wednesday. Take care. XX
  • Morning one and all. A nice morning forecast but fizzling from lunchtime.

I have some good news!! We had a phone call late yesterday afternoon from the Royal Liverpool Hospital! Mr TA has been accepted there for his specialised radiotherapy treatment (PRRT). I could not believe what I was hearing, especially after being told 2 weeks ago that funding had been withdrawn. His first appointment will be for a Gallium scan and a chat with a Consultant who will explain the therapy to us. The lovely lady I spoke to is ringing back today with a date and time. She says there is a hotel near the hospital where she will book us in if the journey there and back is too much in one day. We are currently thinking train will be the best option but needs some thought. The PRRT achieves some good results with neuro-endocrine tumours so this has given us some hope at last.

Meanwhile, yesterday's weigh-in showed he has put 2 lbs on this week (and 1 lb last week) so the new eating regime/nutritional drinks and my nagging and force feeding is paying off!! Just hoping the scan Friday will show stents would help and he could eat normally again.

In the meantime life goes on! Yesterday's garden tidy up never got done as DD rang to see if I wanted a run to the retail park in Colne! I got my much searched for winter slippers and also a bargain bright red short trench coat reduced to £6.75! It'll just go with the floaty poppy patterned scarf they brought me from the Isle of Wight.

We have the 3 DGDs for tea, sleepover and school run in the morning. Tea still to be christened! Plus the soup making is resuming - today's batch will be Red Pepper & Cream Cheese. Not the most MSE but it is the most yummy!

Have a good day all ((((HUGS))))) if you need them and take care xx

Thanks for the new thread, nmic. Good news for DS. Do you know when he'll get his scan?

Sorry to hear about DH, Hester. Has he had labyrinthitis before? I not then I'd ask for a house call from your GP. My mother had 'possible labyrinthitis' which turned out to be a stroke.

Fingers crossed for SIL. I eat when worried, unhappy or bored also and it sounds like you've a lot on your plate. No pun intended!

Speaking of being bored I realise that that's my problem since giving up the Lottie. I'm not self-motivated enough to do other things at the moment. The cause and effect benefit at the Lottie was simple enough - work hard, get food. Slack off, no food. But work hard, get something I don't need as much (like a quilted bed runner which is what I"m meant to be working on) doesn't have the same effect. Clearly I am just a simple soul ;)

I can't find another way to replicated work hard, get food but I have found work hard, get ££s which I think will do it for me. I'm going to apply to return to Avon. I've done it before and know it won't make me rich but it'll fill some time, get me outdoors and exercising and force me to speak to people.

Need to wait in for a delivery today. DW on and WM will be going on shortly. More paperwork on the agenda - forgot to look for a new SIM only contract yesterday. And there is decluttering and some more Amishness in my future. :)

  • TA that is such good news, things are moving at last and well done Mr TA on the weight gain.

HH a dear friend of ours has just had that and was really quite poorly, I hope your L&M recovers soon.

The weather here is quite nice at the moment, but I understand not expected to last. I am off for nail appointment later and Himself will pop to see DD and pick me up on the way back.

    Have a good day all

    Morning :hello:

redruby Just popped on to FB, Noodles is adorable! I wish Scamps wasn't still nervy and a bit unpredictable. He's great with most other dogs, but only for a short while. There's no way he could live with another, not yet anyway

Fingers crossed for your SIL Hester xx

    TravellingAbuela That's great news :j

My salad leaves are still on the go, I've had to pull about half of them out because they've bolted but was surprised to see some still struggling on. It's been a good year for them, shame I can't say the same about everything else, lol.

My shower is being delivered today, the bath is being taken out tomorrow. Shower's being put in tomorrow night and the tiling is being done on friday. That's the plan – I bet something goes wrong though :D We've 'booked' our places in a couple of different houses for showers over the next few days :D

I will continue my fight with HMRC. We seem to be going round in circles atm. I can see why people give up and end up working cash in hand :D It's very frustrating, you feel like you're doing their job for them while they make it as awkward as possible, then they demand their money. Master tru has been registered for ages and is also registered as an employer with them, so why won't they let him add an employee? Grrrrrr.

No plans for today again, just the usual housework.

  • Good Morning everyone and how lovely it is to have a sunny day here too, makes all the difference in the world to your mood does sunshine!

I've got a washload in the machine, will go through the house to dust and vacuum when He Who Knows takes Cookie this morning then into town on the bus for an Aldee visit, the fridge is down to bare bones and a piece of stilton, not enough to keep body and soul together! I've defrosted some lemon sole for supper tonight with rice, oven tomatoes, peas, lemon and tartare sauce and there's some more pea and bacon soup for lunch.

TA wonderful news that they've taken Mr TA in Liverpool and also that he's managed a weight gain this week too, keep doing what you're doing, it's obviously working!!!

Have a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.
  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one, great news TA, I hope all goes well. HH sorry to hear about your OH I would ask the Dr to visit.

Sun is shining, it feels cold, have not been out the door yet. Laundry on, have to do two loads to get it up to date.

DD2 due to come this morning, DGD fell down the stairs at work yesterday, spent 3 hours at A & E, stretched ligaments and soft tissue damage, she has to elevate the foot for 48 hours, so thats her off work. DD will not run round after her though, she is old enough to cope for herself.

OH is washing plant pots. We borrowed pots when we moved so they need to go back clean. The rest will be stored in the sentry box, the small shed we keep the bin with compost in and all the empty pots.

Cooked beef casserole yesterday for tonights supper, so will do the veggies before DD comes. Think we will have dumpling, so we do have have spuds, just carrots, cauli and calabrese. We have some calabrese growing in the garden, will have to have a look at them and see if any of the heads are big enough to cut. We also have brussels forming, I will be using the tops instead of cabbage.
