OS Daily Thread Saturday 26th September

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning all
DGD got up at 6 so we are watching Peppa Pig.
I have been up since 5, my first party order arrived yesterday & I didn't have time to look at it, so I got up to start sorting it out.
I shall drop DGD home later & then we'll go to visit MIL, I bought her some nice body wash, so we'll take that over to her.
TA I hope yesterday went well.
Hugs to all those in need
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone

HH - Thanks for starting us off.

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, dry underfoot and chilly, hoping it warms up as I don't want to put the heating on yet.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns etc, it was a bit disjointed also, DS2, DS1 and myself all ate at 5pm ish, as DS1 had said he wasn't going out after work other than straight to the gym, he then texted to say he was coming home, need food, shower and clean clothes and was then going back out. So he came in ate, showered and changed and went out - I stayed up and texted him to make sure he could get home/needed me to collect him/was staying at mates - he stayed at his mates, so got to bed at 1am. The joys of being a parent - where we live is rural and so public transport just doesn't happen late at night, he went out a few months back and tried to get a taxi home and there wasn't 1 company that had a taxi available - it was a Friday night!

Dinner tonight is ham, egg and chips - easy and reasonably quick.

I'm up, showered and just had brekkie, as I'm going with DH to a caravan event, we won't be back until mid/late afternoon.

I was reasonably productive again yesterday, got the boys beds stripped, washed, line dried and re-made, did a couple of loads of washing, some ready to put on the line before we leave this morning. I also took 2 more boxes of books to the charity shop, filled a bag of clothes from DS2's drawers/wardrobe - he can now put all his clothes away as we've made room, his room is far from finished but it's getting there.

Spent all day pottering around had a bit of a wobble, when day didn't go quite to plan, and got sat in front of pc, and could feel my mood dip, so decided that I'd just shut pc down get a coffee and then go and continue in DS2's room, once I got going I was fine and my mood had lifted again later on. Bag of clothes also in a charity bag to go out and be collected on Monday - that was good timing bag came through the door Thursday afternoon!

    Have good Saturdays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all,

Thank you Hester for starting us off. I was up early as well. Next door have an overflow which is running the whole time and is driving me mad, and gives Himself the urge to keep going to the toilet. Several months ago we told them about it and they said they would get in touch with their Landlord, but they obviously haven't.

We need to pop into Asda this morning and then will call to see DD. She has had a bit of a cold this week but says she is OK now.

I don't know what DGD is doing this weekend, arrangements are usually last minte, but I don't mind.

Tomorrow, if it is still fine, I will take the plants out of the tubs and start planting my tulips, so everything will look quite bare but it needs to be done soon.

TA I hope everything went OK and DH isn't too tired, although I am sure you must be emotionally exhausted , sending a big hug if you would like one.

    Have a good weekend all

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread HH.

All was calm overnight so I slept well though the day was mostly rain. All my new car research paid off when a main dealer I had spoken to the day before phoned to say he'd found me a March '15 car stuffed with added extras for less than the price of a model one step down. Now I'm excited. It's being brought up north for me to look at, mind you the place is still about 65 miles away but heading towards Glasgow, so that's fine. Camelot, you'll maybe know the place in Milton at the traffic lights.

I'm off to Glasgow shortly, taking mum to a gallery to see her painting hanging (and hoping it won't sell so I can have it!) and then some heavy shopping and hopefully a bite of lunch together.

No breakfast in anticipation of a good lunch.

Right, time for a shower. I hope everyone has a good Saturday.
  • Good Morning everyone, I woke up at just after 5 this morning not for any discernible reason but was just awake! Clear sky and chilly at the moment but looks like it will be a dry and sunny day. We have the joy of the Flu Jab this morning and He Who Knows is hoping they will offer him the Shingles jab as well now that he's 70, we'll see!

Not much planned for today, I expect he'll go to the allotment and I have some damaged apples to sort out so I'll probably make apple chutney at some point as I have all I need to do so. I feel we're on the downward slope of the year now, it's surprising just how quickly that feeling grows at this point and with the evenings drawing in and the mornings being light later it changes what we want to do and even the food we want to eat. We both have hankerings for hot stews and casseroles right now even though it's not cold in the day just chilly at night, funny things humans aren't we?

Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.

Morning one and all. What an amazing sky when I opened the blinds earlier. Apparently we are forecast nice weather for another two weeks!! I'll believe that when it happens!

Thanks for all the hugs and good wishes again. Yesterday's scan went off ok but we won't know the result for another two weeks. If Mr TA's eating problem could be solved by stents that would be one less of his problems to contend with. No appointments now until next Friday when we have the Gallium scan and consultation at the Royal Liverpool. We are to grips with the two Leeds hospitals after the last couple of years and could get there blindfold but we are dreading our first appointnment in Liverpool when we don't know the area at all. We have decided it will be the train after all, though DS was insistent he would take us. Maybe if the forthcoming treatment makes Mr TA feel ill we will reconsider his offer.

First job this morning is to resume the Friday clean round! I never got beyond a dust and vac downstairs yesterday before we left. I think I am getting past caring now what the house looks like it gets neglected so much these days.

Ooooh what a good first Strictly show last night! I think I must root for Anita this time as we should support our local celebrity and she hails from about 10 miles from us. Go Anita! DD bought us tickets last Christmas for the Strictly tour in Leeds after Xmas and I loved every minute of it. Even Mr TA, who is not really a Strictly fan, enjoyed it.

Have a good day all ((((HUGS))))) if needed/wanted and take care all xx

Gers - I do know the place, I pass every day going to and from work - it's also the place I hired the van from for DDs move. You are more than welcome to pop in, I'm about 10 mins away.

It's been raining overnight but dry at the moment, I'll peg the washing out and see what happens. Will need to take it in later as I'm staying at DDs tonight. DW emptied and house fairly clean and tidy.

I did some more painting yesterday but had to go for more paint, the large tin I thought would do turns out to be different stuff. Still, that is being used to paint a cupboard someone gave me, DD is having it for her hall when it's done.

Got very confused yesterday as I had the day off, thought it was Saturday - having Saturday all over again today!

Have a good weekend, take care. XX

Well done you for nipping your mood drop in the bud. I'm getting better at doing so too - it's best to keep busy, isn't it?

I feel exactly the same, Mrs LW. It's time for getting things snug for the winter and doing a bit of nesting :)

Glad all went well, TA. Here's hoping there's good news from the scans.

I've not been online much for the past couple of days as my Mac has died. It's going into the shop on the 1st - that's the first appointment I could get. Meanwhile, the Gnome has very kindly lent me a (very) old laptop. Talk about clunky but I'm grateful to have it.

Started as an Avon rep on Thursday and am feeling much more positive now I have more structure and something productive to do. Hoping to pick up my first orders today :)

William-cat has to see the vet today, if I can get an appointment. He was in a fight yesterday and has a bite on his ear. I cleaned it last night when I noticed it and it looked OK but he's very off colour today. I'd leave him 24 hours if they weren't closed on Sundays but I don't want to take the risk of needing the emergency vet - they charge £100 just to walk in the door!

Hugs to all who'd like them :)

  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Glad all went well yesterday T A.

Well we have a bit of a mystery in the close, our neighbours went off on Monday. I did not see them before they went, but remembered that P said they were going away for a few days.
Last night the light was on in the sitting room, but no car......I saw B draw the curtains. Still no car this morning. Do not want to stick my nose in, but cannot help but wonder. They were very helpful to us when we moved in and had problems with the internet etc.

No plans for today, OH wants to put the stuff down on the ground at the side of the house to deter the weeds. So will have to give him a hand with that. We are going to cover the membrane with green Welsh slate.
