O/S Daily Friday 25th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, looks to be dry underfoot, but was a cold night, so hoping for a dry day – as I want to continue with the washing and getting it line dried.

DH up and gone to work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was roast chicken pieces, roasted herby new potatoes, mushrooms, HM coleslaw, and roasted peppers. Tonight we’re having a naughty but easy egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, black pudding, mushrooms, beans etc – I have a packet of bacon to use up and like to cook an easy dinner on a Friday night!

Yesterday I was reasonably productive – a lot more than I have been recently – I managed to write a list early on and then just potter along getting things done – I gave both bathrooms a good deep clean, stripped and remade our bed, will do boys beds today, took box of books to charity shop from DS2’s bedroom, did all the ironing that was dry enough, cleaned our bedroom, made a start on both boys rooms, but need to continue with that, cleaned dining room and lounge but again need to continue with those rooms too, sorted my desk, shredded loads of paperwork, still quite a stack to go through but that will be done once all the other jobs are, continued with washing and line drying. This morning I need to visit the bank, do the food shopping – I’m going to shift this about today, and I’m going to get myself organised and be at MrL’s for when they open and do the food shopping first thing, get home put shopping away and then visit the town, it won’t be late as I intend to be a MrL’s for 8am so should be home by just after 9am, shopping away then out again. Reading this back I don’t seem to have achieved much, but I didn’t stop until nearly 1.30pm for lunch and do feel like I actually achieved something instead of skimming over the cleaning then sitting on pc for the rest of the day! Have had a couple of days of having things on my mind, but yesterday decided to write the list and just potter along – it does work keeping busy, and I felt so much better last night and still feel the same this morning, so today will be more of the same, I still have quite a lot on the list, so plenty to focus on. Will go and strip DS1’s bed now he’s gone to work and get that in the WM it may be done before I need to leave so can go straight onto the line.

Have good Fridays’ everyone x

Keep safe and well x

I'm off to work in a sec, hubby has a cuppa in bed, he is still too dizzy to go to work.
I've made cakes to take to work, cherry muffins & choc chip fudge sandwiches, I hope they sell it all for Macmillan.
DGS turned up on my doorstep yesterday after school, his after school club was cancelled, he knew his mum wouldn't be home so he walked to my house, sensible lad.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning all. A bit dismal here but the sun is forecast to come out (well sunny intervals really!) so on the strength of that I have just pegged out all the towels. I fed the birdies too and it really was a bit chilly out there.

We have Leeds today for Mr TA's angiogram but don't need to leave until the 12.30 train from town so no rushing about this morning. Unfortunately we'll probably be coming back peak time and it'll mean jampacked trains with standing room only! (And paying peak fare prices for the pleasure, instead of our off peak half fare price!)

DD and her BF are going to the caravan for a peaceful weekend. DGDs are at their dads for the w/e as he let them down last weekend! Poor 'van it's been sadly neglected this season. We haven't stayed there since June the way Mr TA has been feeling and DD and the girls not been much either with other commitments etc. We certainly haven't got our money's worth from this year's site fees. DD hoping to take the girls at half term and then we'll be over to shut down and cover for the winter. Not sure Mr TA will be up to doing much but DS and DD's BF are going to pitch in.

I thought of you yesterday GERS!! We nipped down to Aldi for a few bits and I put on the knitted duffel jacket I got last year at the Mill Shop in Inveraray! (It was reduced to half price, is fleece lined and really cosy. Money well spent!)

The full Friday clean up won't get done today but if I get cracking at least the dusting and vaccing should get done before we set off. Then just the kitchen and bathroom tomorrow.

Have a good day all if you can (((((((HUGS))))))) if needed and take care xx

    Morning :hello:

RosyRed I put a biscuit in the kong, some kibble then a big dollop of peanut butter to hold it all in :D I only use peanut butter occasionally, I'm never sure how much is too much. Having said that, he had two lots yesterday, I couldn't cope with all his excitement and I needed the peace for a few minutes :D

Day one, and we're behind already. The walls were a mess under the tiles, they were very uneven and a few holes and gaps had to be filled with render. The previous owners had even left bits of wallpaper on and tiled over them! I can't believe the tiles have stayed on the walls for all this time. I knew this wasn't going to go smoothly, everything we've changed in this house has revealed something that wasn't done properly, lol. The plastering wasn't done yesterday, we've had to wait for the render to dry. I helped it along by putting the heating on overnight :D All the pipework is in place and the walls will be skimmed today.

A lot of dust was created yesterday so I want to clear that up today. No doubt there's some floating about in the air that'll start to settle as soon as I'm done but I can't stand it so I'll clean anyway. Even poor Scamps was a bit dusty :D All the messy work will be over by lunchtime so I'll be vacuuming this afternoon. I have a couple of loads of washing to do this morning, I'll get some gardening done too, it'll be nice to breathe air instead of dust, lol.

  • Good Morning chums, fairly bright at the moment in north Kent and it looks as though it may be dry today.I have history this afternoon all about George Stephenson. We enjoy such a great time at hisory club on Friday afternoons its nice that my routine is getting back to normal again after the summer break. Then tonight I am going to a charity quiz night so this morning I shall be making some nibbles to take with me.probably cheese straws and some tray bakes I expect.Still trying to find an easy chocolate tray bake recipe I had a lovely one on my computer but when I had a problem on there it vanished. It was one that you could use cocoa powder with but I can't remember what the ratio of cocoa to flour was, serves me right for relying on the 'puter. I would be grateful for any ideas chums.I managed to get my Glace cherries yesterday in Adsa they worked out at £1.29 for 200 gms so I may make a sultana and cherry tray bake this morning and drizzle some icing over the top.

DGS Ben phoned up to say he had managed to get a trial for two nights a week glass collecting at a club in Norwich. It will help him streeetch his grant a bit further He has an interview with the Disney store on Saturday as well.He said he will try anything to earn a few quid and keep the wolf from knocking whilst he is at Uni. Bless him he is a good lad and has the work ethic installed into him by his parents.
Right time for a cuppa or two I think Hope everyone has a good day and to those celebrating I hope you have a great day
    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone.

I slept later this morning but only because the noise of the torrential rain woke me in the middle of the night and I couldn't get off again for ages. Now it's bright and cloud free.

The weather was atrocious yesterday too so I only zoomed out for a couple of things in between downpours. On the way home the was a beautiful double rainbow in the sky so I stopped to get a pic on my phone.

My two deliverys arrived in the morning, a deeper than usual muffin tin and a milk frother / heater which is just the bee's knees. OH is a coffee nut so will love this.

I've been researching cars as I want to change mine. I don't do half as much driving as when living in Newcastle and travelling hundreds of miles to Loughborough and round the country. Current car is fuel hungry and the VED is £130.00a year. The new version of the sane is much more efficient with a VED of £30.00. Similiar cars from other manufacturers just don't work for me even though I have tried to be enthusiastic about some. And still the debate rages.

Glasgow is beckoning me tomorrow. I'll drive down early so today will be full of tidying and vacuuming and general stuff like that.

Breakfast is porridge, after that I have no idea. A takeaway is very tempting but if the weather is awful I'm not going out in it!

TA - I know just the shop you're talking about, just under the arch. There's now a fuel station on the opposite side of the road which I used the other week. Hope the jacket keeps you cosy on your train journey. Hope all goes well for MrTA. Safe trip.

Oh, the cloud v sun battle seems to have been won by cloud.

Anyway, I'm off to start my day. I hope everyone has a good Friday.
  • Morning All

Sunshine and showers today, yesterday evening was truly awful, the rain was torrential at times. Still, we've had a good run of dry weather. I'll put the towels in for a wash when I have been in the shower.

We have a long weekend off here, didn't wake till gone 7, this new mattress is making all the difference - the memory foam one was just too warm for me.

Lots of painting of spindles on the bannister today, really fiddly but must be done. The builder brought me a cabinet from another job that will do just fine for DDs new flat hallway, I may start to sand and paint that today too.

I've just given my meter readings on line, turns out I am £550 in credit! I've reduced the monthly payment and asked for some of it back, it will go towards the painter's fees when the hall is done. The rest can stay there as it gets 3% interest and is a good standby in case the winter is really harsh.

tru - good luck with the dust, I still seem to be clearing up from all the plaster being stripped in July! This house is the same, everything has been decorated over without actually doing any basic work!

hilstep - Good to hear from you, hope all goes well with the consultant.

Thinking of you and OH TA.

As I'm off today I may cook some bacon and eggs. Enjoy Friday, take care. XX
  • Morning all,

nmlc - You sound like you are doing a great job of cleaning through and sorting. I admire your motivation :)

TA - Hope it goes well for Mr TA

Nice and sunny here again and the same is forecast for the weekend, so we have decided to make the most of it and go to the caravan later. Popped into Mr T to pick up some bits on the way home this morning.
I watched Eat Well for Less last night where they had a piece on the amount of breakfast cereal you should eat. I have porridge oats and weighed it this morning, 30g seems such a meagre amount. I'll be keen to see if it keeps me going for as long as usual.

Have a good day and a lovely weekend.
  • Good Morning everyone, a really lovely sunny day here so He Who Knows has gone fishing. I've gone right through the house tidying, have dusted and vacuumed everywhere, have just popped on a wash load and had my shower . Supper is cooked as I made a chilli yesterday so I'm going to have a day appreciating the warmth of the sun and just potter at what takes my fancy, bliss!!! It looks as if we're in for a few days of this loveliness weatherwise but it's going to be cold at night, the weather map had a 1 over us for tonight, brrrrrrrr!

Have yourselves a lovely day all, Lyn xxx.
