Did anyone see Martin's Christmas programme?
Did you learn anything? I was disappointed that he didn't tell us where all the successful 'downshifts' came from on the buffet. Seemed a bit random as they mentioned the Lidl champagne. Maybe it depends on who pays? I must admit I don't know much about those price scanner type sites either. Perhaps all the info is on here…

I made Yorkshire puddings in a large muffin tin at the weekend, they were ginormous and tated lovely ... but we're an absolute !!!!!! to get out of the tin, they looked like I had taken then out with a chainsaw  Has anyone got any "why didn't I think if that" ideas for lining the muffin tin to make them easier to get…

Living off Grid ?
I've been hearing more and more about people striking out on their own. Buying a piece of land and generating their own heating and lightning. It seems to be very doable in America but less so here with the price of land and problems with planning permission. Then if you buy land with planning permission it pushes the…

Favourite home made milkshake concoctions
Following reading on another thread about home made milkshakes (thanks purple kitten - peanut butter and banana). I wondered if anyone else has favourite flavours they make at home. My ds2 favourite is strawberry, banana and vanilla ice cream. It saves me a fortune making my own. Anyone else like to share their favourites…

Oil lamp
My DH inherited an oil lamp from his parents which I absolutely love, the problem is that even though I have bought some smoke less oil it still smokes? I am reluctant to use the lamp as I don't want everything smelling of smoke. Does anyone have any ideas on any better oil to burn that won't smoke as much? I have attached…

Aduki beans
Hi all you wise people, I've used half a tin of aduki beans in a soup today and I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can freeze the rest? They're the ready to cook version (as in heat gently, do not allow to boil). I don't have any plans of using these beans for the rest of the week, so it would be great if I could avoid…

Has anyone made a Xmas cake in Remoska ?
My oven is broken and as we are about to have a whole new kitchen we haven't replaced it. I am using my Remoska a lot and made a nice small fruit cake last week, but I wonder if anyone has dared to make a 'proper' Xmas cake in a standard size Remoska ? Don't want to risk all those expensive ingredients if it is likely to…

Help needed to plan through the next 10 days
Due to far too many unexpected outlays in an already tight month I seem to have managed to have run out of money. I get paid on the 22nd of the month, with putting aside bus money to get to work, I've got around £10 left. My past experience of this forum says this is more than doable considering what I have in but a little…
