This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning all,
Cold here this morning with a frost both OH and I have sore throats / head things going on, so I hope they dont get any worse.
Off to work for me will drop dd at the station for uni first. Dinner tonight will be fish pie and veg for OH and I and a veggie lasagne for dd all made and in the freezer just got to shove them in the oven.
Will need to do a wash tonight and get it on the airer, also think it might be time for the heating!!
Have good days all xx

Good morning everyone
I just started a thread one minute later than this one, so have asked can it be removed.
Disastrous day yesterday as our car died
In the middle of sorting out a replacement and getting it removed but chaos reigns and I am using holiday and time from work which I had hoped to get paid for. Am also borrowing money from our endowment shortfall fund but this is ok, as we had earmarked money for a replacement car in January, so just need to pay that back from redundancy. Why is life never simple.
OK pity party over and need to get on with a new day.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, safe and warm and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Light cloud, cold and looks like there's been a frost.
DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, all eaten and menfolk didn't moan! Tonight we're having lamb casserole, wil be putting that in the slow cooker shortly, will do the normal - mash, veg and dumplings to go with it, as not much meat to go round. I'm going to get the xmas cake made and cooked today so need to have the oven available for as long as it needs, hence using the slow cooker, for the dinner. Will also make the xmas puds - they are one's that I'll cook in the pressure cooker - bit of a slow old job though as I have to do them 1 at once as they both won't fit in together.
Need to go to mum's this morning to collect a raffle prize for the weekend, and local dealer donated 1 yesterday when I visited his business. Did manage to get more washing, drying and ironing done yesterday, and also purchased wine and prezzies for the weekend. Decided that an on-line shop would be best for tomorrow so have done that too. So other than cake and pudding making and cooking, will endeavour to get some housework done, possibly get some packing done ready for the weekend too. Will get DH's report looked at again.
Keep safe and well x

Good Morning,
The sun in shining here but it looks cold and frosty outside
We didn't have lasagne last night, DH protested and we had tuna jacket potatoes instead. Not a problem as the jackets were on the list for later in here week, so lasagne tonight.
I need to look in St Delia's Christmas cake receipe, last year I made it from a Waitrose cake kit but as they as rarer than hens teeth this year and not on special offer it's cheaper to buy the ingredients for the 3 cakes I need to make than to pay £30 for 3 kits ... even if I could find them!!
We will be off to the park this afternoon, assuming the weather stays clear, so Frog can run about like a mad thinghopefully DH will come home about that time so can meet us in the park too.
Sending out suitable new car vibes and hugs to everyone who feels like one xxWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
Morning all,
Woke up with the heating going full blast this morning... All my windows are streaming wet! Looks like winter, so glad I built good credit on my gas... What with baby and DD1 it's best to keep the house comfortable.
Anyway, the scan went well yesterday. Baby is just fine... We got a great view of the face and I was allowed a copy. Looks like a baby, only 2 days to go... Then the time will get even slower as I go overdue
Today I have the washing machine repair man coming, whenever I wash using detergent in the drawer (baby clothes) they come out with black spots on it. The machine is 5 years old in April and my cover runs out... So hoping to get this sorted now in order to delay buying a new one too soon.
DH and I looked at our gas & electric usage last night, discussed a plan to lower electric. And how to keep the house at the right temperature for the baby (ie. electric v's gas heating at night).
Nothing else today, apart from looking after DD and making bread. I'm going a bit crazy with not much to do...
Hope everyone has a great day xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Good Morning All
Been MIA again
Have last shift at 2nd job on Friday so a lot more time on my hands now. Will definitely miss working and oh my going to miss the Friday paydays! Will be going there next season though more of an admin job in the daytimes, this will start in February so 3 months to get my life and house super organised!
Very cold start here this morning but don't mind as its dry. Have seen DS off to school and just about to jump in the shower. Need to turn my bodyclock around, have been working late nights and need to get used to getting up early again (which I actually prefer)
Plans are to declutter, get back on menu planning wagon and watching the pennies so when I go back to work I will be in a good routine. There is absolutely loads of do round the house - loads of massive filing and book keeping jobs in the office and the house needs a massive declutter.
Today OH is at home as no work, I don't get as much done when he is around so we are off to Makro to stock up on toilet roll and the like. No cooking tonight, DS has a special lesson after school and I had to bribe him with a pub dinner so we would go.
Anyway best get going, hope everyone is ok (((hugs))) to whoever needs/wants one.x0 -
Morning all,
TTFTM sorry to hear about the car
Essex Girl welcome back
Juliegeorgiana glad everything is good with the baby x
Icy. I also need to cook my Christmas cake
It's a lovely bright frosty morning here. An early start as dh and I dropped dd and DGS off at before school club/ work and then an early price up for a job.
Parents evening went much better than I expected. They were all full of praise at how much better he's doing this year. As Dan said, you just need it chill mum :rotfl:
Hoping some of my parcels will land today or tomorrow and I can get wrapping.
I've got a dress to sell on eBay soon as I get a minute.
Tea last night was chicken chips and beans, cheap and cheerful. Hoping for a quiet weekend but up at friends on Saturday. I also want to make a Thai green curry, special request from dh and also it shall be gluten free so I can have it.
Have a good day all xStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Morning all,
Groundhog day again for me, but they pay me so I'm not complaining.
We had a takeaway last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Tonight's dinner is in the freezer, the house is tidy as I haven't been rampaging about and did as many jobs as I could last week.
Hugs all round, back to the grindstone xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Hi everyone,
Not many people around today - I'm not usually this far up the thread.
All this talk of Christmas cakes has made me think about reviewing my ingredients. I'm not a dried fruit fan so I will probably need to buy that. I must also check that the mincemeat I made last year is still ok (just did, it seems fine).
Not a lot happening here today, I want to sew and have a general tidy round but that's about it.0 -
Morning all,bit nippy this morning but quite bright and sunny. We came joint 2nd in the pub quiz then third in the tie breaker afterwards .Didn't know it was as long ago as 1956 that the premium bonds started.Still we had a lot of fun and it is an easy and cheap night out. This afternoon I have the monthly U3A meeting and we have a guest speaker talking about Auctions and his life banging the gavel, so it should be quite interesting.
Youngest DD is coming to help me sort out my wardrobe as having lost a considerable amount of weight on my diet she said 'We are going to declutter Mum and make room for some new clothes 'sounds a bit ominous but she is right it is full of stuff I will never wear again.
Hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing.
Cheers chums JackieO xxx0 -
Morning all
TTFM - sorry to hear about the car, ours died earlier this year. SO frustrating.
I was up early with the dog this morning taking him out, I have been a terrible dog owner recently, and need to give him more time and attention. Totally my own fault. So it's back to walking EVERY morning without fail, and more play time and cuddles. I adore him so much, I just need a kick up the bum.
Dinner tonight is broccoli and chilli pasta.
Nowt else to report really!
have a good day all x0
