Freezing dishes for lunch?
Hi all, Just a quick question, might sound daft :o My OH had become fed up of sandwiches for lunch, and we wanted to cut down on the bread we ate as well. I've been making some 'mini meals' and putting them into plastic containers. One meal was pasta, chicken, veg, mixed with pesto and the other one was chicken and veg but…

Curtain question! How many widths would you say is right?
Not quite sure where to post this question so apologies if in the wrong place. I've just had a lady round to measure my windows for curtains. She said double pleat would look best and said I needed 2 1/2 widths per curtain so 5 widths in total. The rail would be 280cm long. Does that seem right? It seems an awful lot to…

Help with ironing board cover please...
Good afternoon Old Stylers! I'm hoping you'll have some advice to save me buying a new ironing board. My rather old ironing board is still working well, but desperately needs a new cover. The section where you keep the iron is a continuation of the board, so it looks a bit like a solid metal surfboard with an inset for the…

Think the bread maker has had it GRRRR
I have a 2 year old Panasonic bread maker - I know it cost about £140 when new so not a cheap one. The last few months the quality has been getting steadily worse of the end product when it comes to loaf making. I normally use Carrs flour and Dove Yeast as my main ingredients. The receipe just doesn't seem to rise. I tried…

How to use a YS Pork Pie??
I only nipped into Mr M`s for catfood, but I have this compulsion to look in their `reduced` fridge...so, I`ve bought a pork pie a foot long (£2.50!) It was already vacuum-wrapped, and I`ve managed to fit it into the freezer to give myself some thinking time. Any suggestions on some recipes to use it? I was thinking of…

Help! Fizzy Cake!
Hi, I regularly make my own cakes.... usually a victoria sponge mix - 8oz marg, 8oz caster sugar, 4 eggs 8oz SR Flour and this is put into an oblong pyrex roasting dish to cook... up until the last couple of times it has been great. Last time it tasted/felt as if the SR flour still had some of the raising agent in it as it…

Can I wash this?....
My husbands winter coat needs a wash and it says 'dryclean' on the label. I'm sure it will be ok to wash on a cool cycle in my washing machine but I thought I'd seek a 2nd opinion from all you wonderful O/S here before I do. I've never dry cleaned it before: 59% Pure new wool 41% polyester and the lining is 100% polyester…

So excited, as managed to get a Lakeland pasta maker from Ebay, and am just waiting for it to arrive! I was checking out recipes online, and Jamie Oliver and others all say that it is best made with "00" flour. Can anyone tell me the best place to get this please? ( and also any other pasta making tips!)

Baking for the week??????
I have noticed that when people are writing about what they have done to get ready for the week ahead on a sunday, they often mention that they have done their 'baking' for the week. I am just intrigued to know what people mean by this? My DH and 2 DS's have packed lunches and I would love to be more prepared for the week…

Washing a Vintage crochet blanket?
Hello everyone! I've started de-cluttering my house and in the loft I found an old crochet blanket my nan made 30-40 years ago. I know it wont fit in my washing machine so will have to take it to the launderette. I'm guessing it'll be alright on a wool wash, but how to dry it? Will it be alright to put it in the dryer to…

Yoghurt and topping container?
Hi all, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but thought if anyone would know they'd be here! Looking to make my own version of the activitia snackpots so used the shape granola recipe posted here (thanks!) but a similar style container, split for yoghurt and topping, (but reusable) would be great. Does anyone know if such…

Can I keep a cooked casserole out on the worktop?
I'm trying to be organised and frugal so I've made a chicken casserole for tomorrow night. (Stops me getting in from work and ordering takeaway!) As it's just come out of the oven, will it be ok to leave on the worktop because I can't put it in the fridge until it cools. My plan is to re heat it thoroughly tomorrow before…

My challenge
Hello, I'm running a bit low on cash until payday, and i've noticed there are quite a few things lying around my cupboard that are yet to be used. So i'm trying to use as much of it as I can without the need for a food shop. Obviously I may need to spend a bit on veg/meat etc but I was hoping people might be able to help…
