Can I wash this?....

Options
My husbands winter coat needs a wash and it says 'dryclean' on the label. I'm sure it will be ok to wash on a cool cycle in my washing machine but I thought I'd seek a 2nd opinion from all you wonderful O/S here before I do.

I've never dry cleaned it before:

59% Pure new wool
41% polyester
and the lining is 100% polyester

Would you wash it in your washing machine?

Thanks for any replies.

the main problem with lined jackets and coats is getting them dry afterwards
You can put rolled towels through the arms to help keep the shape and put them on a wooden hanger also wrapped in towels to avoid marks, but air drying a heavy coat is going to take forever in this weather

If it was expensive I prob wouldn't take the risk, especially as its someone else's, however I've only ever had one dry clean only item come to bother by being machine washed.....a pair of black woollen trousers from warehouse that I bought when I was in 6th yr at school so 1994 and they cost £40 even back then!

I find everything survives a cold wash with a washball rather than soap powder. :)
  • Och, throw it in the machine! The only clothing I take to the dry cleaners is a 100% silk dress from Monsoon that cost a fortune.

Bung it in on a 30C hand wash cycle and a gentle spin and it should be OK.

And I don't think I've ever washe anything on any less than a 40 degree standard

Thanks all, I washed it on a 30 degrees wool cycle with a slower spin speed....and it came out fine.

Thank you for all your advice on this
