How I cut my food expenses by 50%
It was easy. I became a Vegetarian, bought my food in bulk and cut my takeaway meals down to just 1 per month (normally as a treat on payday). I only go out to restaraunts for special occassions now too. Now I have lots more available cash and I feel a lot healthier actually.

Hand Dye
I bought some hand dye online (cos Dylon don't do a bright red anymore) but didn't realise that unlike the Dylon dyes which can be done in a bucket of cold water these need to be simmered in a pan of water! The problem is I don't have a pan big enough - can I do it any other way?

Baking for one help please.
I live alone and I would like to spend less on mass produced rubbish and do my own cakes and biscuits. Baking my own would be healthier too. But the recipes are always for a huge quantity! For example, I love the Tana Ramsay Lemon Drizzle Cake, foolproof recipe and tastes gorgeous, but the recipe serves 10 people. I…

what to do with creamed coconut blocks
Hi all, sorry if this isn't the right forum but I feel "safe" on OS :o I have two packs of creamed coconut that I bought when I found it cheap in H&B but don't really make curry very often. I could keep it in and use it up for curries, but I thought I'd ask you good folks if you have any other recipes (sweet or savoury)…

Are cast iron Le Creuset casserole dishes worth the money?
I've never used a cast iron pan before, I have a rubbish selection of cheap pans at the moment and would like to upgrade. I make chili often (I'm a vegetarian). Do you think the Le Creuset pans are worth the money? They're quite expensive and I'd have to save, but I'm considering buying one. Or do you think the cheaper…

Which Tuna?
Hi all, Just a quickie... Which tuna do I need to buy for tuna mayo with sweetcorn as a jacket potato filling? Oil, brine or springwater? Flakes, chunks or steaks? I know it sounds stupid but do I just drain it and mix it with the sweetcorn and mayo or do I need to 'rinse' the tuna somehow? Think I'll try John West first…

Using National Trust vouchers for something old style thrifty
I've been given £30 National Trust vouchers - was very excited for a moment till I looked at their online shop and remembered why I've never bought from them before. It's all really expensive and only suitable for gifts etc if desperate. Someone suggested pretty gardening gloves but to be honest, I bought some lovely ones…

Chic Trolley recommendations
Hi, I hope you can help here. I am looking to buy a plain shopping Trolley (rather than something patterned/stripped etc), but that is still looks ok, and is fit for purpose, as I use public transport and walk a lot to pick up my heavy shopping. I had been using a travel case on wheels that worked well for a while, now one…
