Disaster!!
So I was making some strawberry tarts this morning (it's looking good!) and the cream recipe called for 4 egg yolks so naturally I had the whites left over. I thought I would make some meringue. I followed the Delia recipe but my egg whites took forever to get to a 'peaking' stage. The minute I added the sugar it reverted…

Best way to store carrots
Hello lovely people at OS Apologies for what may be considered a dim question.... Just what is the best way to store carrots? I love carrots, I wouldn't want to store them for longer than a week as they wouldn't last that long! The ones I bought from the supermarket on Sunday are already really soft and gross. Am I being…

Washing Machines, Children, Resuable Nappies and Laundry Gloop
A bit of a mix of a thread - i've been reading about Laundry Gloop for weeks now and i'm really interested in it because i'm expecting my first and i've opted for Resuable Nappies. The reason is because babies have such thin skin and there are loads of chemicals in disposable nappies rather than anything to do with…

Baked potato in the bread maker
Please could someone help? I read here a few days ago that someone made baked potatoes in the bread maker, I think on the bake cycle. I was just hoping someone could tell me if you put them in tinfoil first or just pop them in, and can you put in more than one at a time? Thank you I really need to read this thread with a…

Need to save money!
Hey everyone! New to the board, having migrated from the house buying board. The house we have bought is big and old and is going to bleed us dry of money to repair it, never mind the running costs! The house has no attic so cannot put in insulation without ripping the roof off so we need other ways to save money where we…

Is home made bread cheaper?
Apologies if this has been asked a hundred times before. I picked up a v cheap breadmaker in the charity shop and have been making my own bread every day for the last 2 weeks. Is it def cheaper to do it this way? I have no idea about electricity costs at all but I'd say the ingredients per loaf come to about 50p TIA :)

Hi, this is my first thread so apologies if it has been asked elsewhere. I have a Chinese Pear tree in my new garden and absolutely no idea what to do with them. Would I just use them as I would crab apples and make a pie? Hope someone can help :) Thank you

What to do with unwanted parcel bags?
Hi, We have literally hundreds of used, but re-usable, parcel bags (plasticy) and jiffy bags (paper with bubble wrap inside) lying around in our house, mainly from ebay purchases. We do use some up when we sell online, for sending onwards. However, we just have so many all over the place and really need to get rid of some,…
