Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday, 20th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Good morning everyone.
Grey and cool here with more rain forecast L
Two and a half days until the end of term (who can tell I’m counting)J Will still have to go in to clean up, move classrooms and generally sort out. However, life will not have to run to a timetable ruled by bells and we can go to the loo when we want to!!!!!
Dinner today will be freezer forage with hg salad (leaves, peppers & onion).
Hugs Lou – you are in my thoughts x
Hugs NPM – you too are in my thoughts x I remember the day that the question of Autism was raised about my DGS. However, with support from school staff and a couple of good class mates who encouraged him to play with them at break, he has benefitted from the more structured approach in the junior classroom. I am sure Noah will develop more and more coping mechanisms as he gets older with the support and guidance he gets from you. x
Happy Wednesday folks. Hugs to all those who need or want them.
Cheers m’dears, Silver x

Morning Silvermaid and all who follow, bright here at the moment and forecast sunny spells with the odd shower.More like April than July.DGS Henry has his school trip to Broadstairs today so I am keeping my fingers crossed for him His brother went yesterday and he said it didn't rain once so I hope its the same today. This morning I have my friend June coming to lunch from Dartford She has been away for a month with her OH touring Germany and Denmark. So will will have lots to catch up on.DGS Ben is picking the boys up this afternoon for me then will bring them to my house before we all go back to theirs.Tomorrow its Mikey's infants leaving service at the schools church so granny has to go and watch him and his class.I quite like the leaving services the children are so solemn. It doesn't seem possible that Mikey will be in the juniors in September, time just whizzes by the older you get.
Right well I'm off for my morning gallon of caffeine so have a good day whatever you are doing
Take care
JackieO xx
PS my lovely niece Lorraine brought me a pretty set of wind chimes in mother-of-pearl from her home in Mexico City:j I had a lovely visit from her yesterday she is off to France on Saturday to visit with my brother Davy I know he is looking forward to seeing her0 -
Morning all! Yet more rain here - and it does feel more like April than July!!! Only 3 days until end of term - YIKES! Then my house will have to be in order to cope with 6 weeks of little feet! Gritted teeth here as last night the boys broke some sand bottles that I'd got when OH & I went to Petra. Ho hum - only possessions, not memories! Loads to do today to try to clear the decks as we had two wet beds from the boys last night, so TD and WM on already.
Have to get on and iron the school uniform - thank goodness theres only a few days left, the uniform wouldn't last much longer!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

I exhausted today, I phoned my DD last night, not sure why, I just felt she needed me. I'm glad I did, she's been on a Child Protection course & needed to talk it through. We talked for almost 2 hours, we discussed strategies to help her cope, I suggested she imagined a 'bin' that she put things in that she felt were too painful to deal with. I also suggested a mantra of 'I can't save them all, I can only protect those here & now' it's a bit clunky, so I'll speak to a friend of mine who is a professional therapist for some advice.
Three more days at work, woohoo, it's building to crisis point, with everyone trying to get stuff done before we break up.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Grey here again this morning, I hope it brightens up enough later for me to get some washing on the line.
The Schools here break up tomorrow, but DH still has to work. He starts his holiday on 7 August. We are not going away as such, because we can't really afford to go away and get some of the windows done before winter sets in.
But we will probably go and see my sister in Norfolk for a couple of days and that will be our break.
Plan for today is to go to the library to take some books back, I also need to get some new trousers from Bon Marche and I want to pop into poundland.
Dinner is chicken in white wine sauce with mushrooms, peppers and brown rice
((((((Hugs)))))) to all who need one especially Lou x
Have good days all x

Morning all,
Dull and overcast here again today, I hope that it brightens up for my holiday next week. I got absolutely soaked on playground duty yesterday morning (no wet breaks at secondary school!)
Today is another quiet day hopefully at work and at home.
I am trying to get the children to pack their clothes for holiday, I don't want to spend friday evening yelling at them to get it all done.
We finally got the results of DD1's ballet exam and she has passed with merit, she is absolutely delighted and I can breathe I sigh of relief, I don't think that I could afford to put her through it again, together with extra lessons and travel to Manchester it cost me about £200:eek:
Tea tonight will be using up whatever is in the fridge, the chilli has finally gone.
Hugs to all that need them especially NPM and Lou
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all,
Grey and wet here again today :(really fed up with the rain now, please can we have some summer.
Off to work today, and its busy busy busy, so before I know it the day has gone and its time to come home, pasta for dinner with onions mushrooms, and a slice of ham, a tiny chotitzio (sp) and some salami mixed in with a sour creme sauce, hopefully dd will get involved again, she is cooking two or three nights a week now whick is lovely after working all day.
WE bought new handles for our windows on Ebay, the old ones were really cheap brass ones, which would not lock, we changed half yesterday and will do the others tonight, it makes a vast difference to the look of the windows, and they all lock now, which makes me sleep better I am very easily pleased
Happy Anniversary to Lou for yesterday,
Thanks for the good wishes
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning
May I join you?
Had a really pleasant day yesterday trying to look for the little happies in life. My home smells glorious due to the £ 2 end of day bargain bunch of flowers that I bought at the local market. Stall holder wanted more but that was all I had in my purse and he decided I deserved them!! I have the sweet Williams on my desk and can smell the stocks everywhere. Not sure what all of the others are.
Have a crammed worklist today and hope to get some chores done on my breaks.
Have a good day

Morning everyone
Grey and overcast here this morning, but have put washing out as I only have to work until lunch so may get dry before it rains!! DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Dinner last night was quickies for everyone, I had a mushroom omelette and salad after taking DS1 to Cadets.
Will be trying to get as much done on my days off this week as possible as never seem to get as much done when the boys are on school holidays. Went to drs yesterday as still not feeling great he seems to think it's some kind of infection, so have anti-b's and to take a sample for testing, and typically I feel a bit better this morning! DS1 has sports day at school today, not sure whether it will happen though, sky looks a bit grey and rainy! DS2 has his last day at the childminder's today and then his leavers assembly on Friday morning - it's a lovely assembly except you need a box of tissues, and of course this is the younger of my 2, so feel's like my baby is growing up!!
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

In the office again today, didn't get as much done as I hoped yesterday. Spent most of the time in the car.
Need to drop DD off later not too far away so hopefully can get my head down today.
Making chicken stock today then hm chicken soup with hm bread tonight - definitely feels like soup weather at the moment!
Congrats to your DD Moorhen :j

JACKIEO so far Broadstairs is looking good don't know about later, we often have different weather to everyone else in SE Kent.
Off to do Mum's cleaning this morning, then picking up a wardrobe from my friend's house that's going in the spare room. Will take the big dog back later and then clean all the dog hair up. Looking forward to school hols, the only person I have to organise is me!
Not sure what's for tea, probably pasta or pizza. Have a good day all and big hugs to anyone who wants one.
