Hey there, wondering if any of you can help out with a few ideas, as I'm totally stuck...... Got some friends coming up this weekend, we're off out walking on Saturday and I've already cooked up and pre-frozen two pots of thick soup (Lentil & Red Pepper and Pea & Ham) for when we come back Saturday evening, and will set…

Making children's meals...
Ok, so I do main evening meals, but.... When my children have reached High School it's become their responsibility to get themselves breakfast and make their own lunch....I'm now starting to wonder how money saving that is or how good for them. My original thinking was that as they get older they need to know how to look…

Cake and chicken!
Morning old stylers...long time no see! I am in need of some of your worldly wisdom...I made a cake the other day, just a basic vanilla sponge, and added some choc buttons to the mix. Predictably, they all sank to the bottom, despite me coating them in flour first, which I thought was the solution. So how do you stop them…

Making Apple Juice - The Transylvanian Way
This could rate as one of the more unusual requests for O.S.'ers - but am hopeful someone can tell me how please. In the Transylvanian region of Hungary they use surplus apples to make apple juice. It is done in such a way that with natural preservatives only it lasts for literally months. The secret is apparently…

What little OS thing have YOU done today?
Apologies if this thread isn't a good idea - I'm sure a mod will take it down if it's not though. It's a spin on a thread we have running over on Mortgage Free wannabe - the idea being that it's for the little things that don't necessarily need a thread of their own, or fit in anywhere else, but that you really want to…

Timing for sausage and baked bean stew in oven/hob
Hi, just a quick question. I've picked up a recipe from one of the lovely people on this forum-it's a casserole using sausages, baked beans, 1 pint of stock, lentils and oats. It was for a slow cooker which I haven't got yet-going to look round the carboots for one. Could anyone tell me how long this would take on the…

Slow Cooking For One!
Hello Old Stylers :j I've now moved into my own place and kind of got it sorted! I bought a slow cooker (one of the tesco ones that were on offer, thanks to a kind OS'er!) and am now a bit stumped. When I was with ex-MrK, I only used the slow cooker a couple of times before we broke up, and he seems to have acquired it.…

Greaseproof v Baking Parchment?
What is the difference between greaseproof paper and baking parchment? Sent OH out to get some greaseproof and he came back with baking parchment "because it was 37p cheaper" - so he does listen to my complaints about cutting costs sometimes:rotfl: I assume that they are both OK for lining my (greased & lined) cake tins,…
