OS Daily Wednesday 8th October 2008

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for the 7th October . It is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning

I woke up at 2.55 and haven't been able to get back to sleep  I've given up now and know that I'll finish this post, surf for half an hour, have a cup of tea, do the packed lunches and drift back up for an hour and then curse the alarm clock and fall asleep at my desk :o

OS wise ... I made a chocolate sponge last night which needs icing and cooked the pasta for today. I still have a few plates to wash up and need to run hoover round but I know it won't happen today as I won't see my house again til nearly 7 pm when we will all be starving and hoovering will be the last thing on my mind.

I was in bed for 9 last night - watched Jamie's Ministry of Food and then the news  Banks being part nationalised ... scary stuff!! I hope the BoE drops the base rate today to show that they have some sort of faith in the economy recovering.

I'm quick unpicking a badge sewn on to my daughters fleece at the mo and need to get a wiggle on with that at lunch time. The stitches don't just go one way but 3!! There are 2 lots of blue stitches and 1 lot of white and it's not as simple as I first thought it would be :p ... but it will save me from buying a new one as it's got plenty of wear in it yet :money:

Anyway ... guess that's enough of my tired ramblings ... off to do the packed lunches I guess and
make another cuppa and then catch up on thread.

Hope everyone has a great day and huge (((HUGS))) to all those who want/need them xxx

Good morning Jet. Hope you managed to get back to sleep and didn't oversleep!

Well, I only watched the news last night because DH worked late and the whole evening was disrupted in the end. I hate clearing up the dinner things late in the evening. Plus the ankle that I'd sprained in my very public fall yesterday was throbbing. In the end I took some painkillers and, with a hot bath, the pain almost went. My foot is very bruised but the swelling has almost gone down.

Dinner tonight is Spaghettti Carbonara; it's simple to make so I can leave it until DH actually gets home although he has promised me it won't be a late finish at work tonight. I'm collecting DGS from school this afternoon but will do his dinner early because his Mum will pick him up at 6-ish.

(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Jayward, Beth and family, Candygirl's Dad, Essex-girl's Dad, Pippa's DH and Mum and Urick. Lots of (((hugs)) to all of you with coughs and colds.

    Churchmouse - :hello: :hello: :hello:

Beth - I do hope there's better news re Icesave. I can't believe the worry of it all for so many people.

It'll be interesting to see what the Chancellor announces this morning and whether or not it will make any difference to the situation. I don't think banking will ever be the same again after all this.

Well, I shall go and have a shower and see you all later. Hope everyone has a good day - the weather is supposed to be really good for the next few days so I hope we all get a bit of much-needed sunshine.

Morning everyone. Didn't sleep well - had a dream that my nan was in my living room, and she passed away three years ago. Now wondering if what my mum says is true - dream of the dead and there's trouble with the living. Not got off to a good start either, I've already smashed a plate in the kitchen, cutting my foot in the proces. It's all still there on the floor, I thought I'd have a sit down and wake up properly before attempting to clean it up. Never mind, at least the BM's on!!
Hugs to everyone that needs one,

    Good Morning All

Mioliere - hope the ankle heals quickly and you have more of an upright day today.

(((hugs))) to anyone else feeling under the weather.

Seems much milder today - hope so need to get some washing dry.

Am off to Tai Chi this morning and probably will be doing office work this afternoon. No ironing to be done but plenty of washing.

Had a nice time in town yesterday, the farmers market was good but seemed to be less stalls and not as busy. Managed to get a leg of organic lamb for sunday lunch. Also needed some new cushions and got them from £ stretcher. So had a bit of retail therapy without spending much.

Off now to finish my tea, have a great day.

  • Morning,

wow Jet that was an early start! Hope you're not too tired later on...
Kathy, glad to hear the swelling on your ankle has gone down a bit & the limp isn't too bad.... I was in bed from 4.45 yesterday, knees still feeling a bit sore but the rest of me isn't so achy. I look like a 5 year old with my grazes!!!
Soba, stop for a little while & drink more tea (my cure for most things!) .... hope the rest of your day improves.
Betheebee, I'm glad I made you laugh - obviously I wasn't reading things properly last night & was posting utter nonsense!!!!! Today probably won't be much improvement either, lol!!!

I agree re the banking system Kathy, I don't think people will be as trusting or feel secure for a very long time. I hope the interest rate does come down a bit again, it's so scary listening to the news - makes me feel as though the entire country is about to collapse & that this all feels like it's come from nowhere???

Anyway, once I'm up & moving (and had tea) will be visiting my little brother late morning, and (thank you for the idea RavyLesley) will be making muffins with the blackberries I found in the freezer. And doing a little reading for tomorrow's Uni session.

Will check back later, have a good day all & (((((((((((hugs)))))))))) for all the poorlies & those in need.

What a lot of posts & it's only just gone 7.
I'm off to work soon, didn't get much done on my NVQ, I find it difficult to write/type because of my shoulder. Paper delivery today, so that will be interesting to see who finally moves it!
My DD has gone to her MP about her house purchase, it's a combined scheme involving a mortgage company & Catalyst Housing, so far it has taken 6 or 7 months, all because no-one at Catalyst will ever return a phone call unless she spends the whole day leaving messages, they don't have a clue what they are doing & they couldn't care less.
Whilst I do sympathise with everyone who is worried about their savings, I have to admit to the odd smirk when I think about all the sleepless night my EX will be having about his savings, just think, if he'd had to give me half of it, he'd only be half as worried!
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Looks like its going to be a brighter day here, typical, I am back to w**k today  , still never mind, it pays the bills. Its all doom and gloom on the news this morning, I don't quite understand it all, but it does not look good.

HM lamb burgers (from leftover mince) wedges and veggies for tea, its all prepared apart from the wedges, so it will be nice and quick.

Rubbish and recycling will go out today, and I will swish and swipe before work.

Kathy and squiggly, hope your poor knees and ankles feel better soon xxx

Jet, hope you got some more sleep xx

Marie and Ulick hugs to you both xx

    Candy hugs to you xx

    Have good days all xx
