Grinding sugar to make caster sugar?
I know some of you do this. I have tried several times but it has never worked - all I get is a tiny bit of 'dust', lots of big sugar crystals and a very hot blender! Even when I process it for say 5 min. What am I doing wrong??

Hope I'm in the right place for this. I bought a cane chair from Ikea yesterday with the matching seat pad. However a cream seat pad won't last 5 minutes in our house & I've got some lovely chocolate brown cord material I want to cover it with, but I haven't a clue how to do it  The pad is a D shape so it doesn't…

Meals Using Only Local Produce.
In looking around the threads, most folks seem to use, in cooking and to spin out supplies, things like lentils, pasta etc that aren`t, so far as I know, grown in the UK. It made me wonder about the food I buy and cook, and I was quite suprised at just how much of it isn`t anywhere like local. And that if I was forced to…

Online Supplies?
I live on a small Orkney island. We have three tiny shops, what used to be called `corner` shops down south. ;) They are pretty good at getting in essentials though, even after all this time, there`s never any bread nor milk on a Monday til the night time ferry has been in. :) But basics that others take for…

Jet washing potatoes?
We all know how nice it is to have clean spuds but you certainly pay the price for it but they do look nicer as a jacket potato or the skins left on for wedges. I was wondering though if I bought the farmers market sack of 25kg spuds that tend to be muddy yet cheap could I jet wash them in a bucket to clean them up? I…

One portion freezer draw...do you have one?
I don't know if anyone else does this but I thought it may be an idea to pass it along. When I cook a meal I try to keep one portion back, if I can, or if there just happens to be a bit left over. I then place it in plastic pots from chinese takeaway (these could be donated to you ;) ) and put in the particular freezer…

Ready grated vs block Cheddar
I have always avoided buying ready grated Cheddar as an unnecessarily expensive food for them as is too lazy to grate BUT at Tesco now ready grated value Cheddar is £3.96 per kilo and block value Cheddar £5.13 per kilo.
