OS Daily Thread - Friday 31st October

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Friday 31st October, 2008. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.

Morning all and Happy All Hallows Eve!!

MrsM and Mioliere - glad you found the link useful
Crazynerd - your introductory message made me grin - I still don't cook with lentils despite 3 months of brainwashing suggestions on here. I cannot get over my childhood dislike of them.
penpin - so glad you had a lovely time - it's good to have you back. Hope you feel better soon hon
Squiggly - thanks honey and yes, I definately need more cheesecake!
welcome2.gifteaparty_mum and Lalaladybird!
MoanyMoany - it was me that posted that link - glad you enjoyed it, I thought it was a little gem
Rage and thriftlady - a friend of mine told me about David Tennant not coming back in 2010 a few months ago, so I was suprised when he announced it that people were suprised. Very sad, he was fab, but at least he stayed and didn't wuss out after just one series! They say that irish charmer James Nesbitt is top runner, but that might be a red herring to hide who it really will be.
Ivyleaf - we are addicted to frikadillon they are SO delicious and filling! We have cut them up and put them into bakes, had them cold for lunches and hot with mash and baked beans. Wonderful stuff!
Snowy - Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy well done Dylan!woo.gif

I have to say that I use mysupermarket.com every fortnight and my shopping always comes out cheaper with Tescos! Though it depends on what kind of things you regularly buy of course. Plus they have never let me down yet. I find if you ring with a problem they very quickly refund you, but I guess it depends on who you speak to and where you are.

Ok, I am still finding it really painful to walk, even from the bed to the lounge so not much OS being done BUT I did bake cookies yesterday and my OH put the BM on the 'dough' setting and I shaped the dough into rolls for a change and we cooked them in the oven.

*Hugs* to all who need them and hope you all have fun this evening, whatever you are doing for Halloween!

    Goodmorning everyone,

I've got the afternoon off it so happens. OS is on holidays for a week and has DGS. I didn't know about it until lunch time. We had the afternoon planned so he wasn't all that happy. :D Made 2 batches of play doh which turned out great at a fraction of the cost of bought stuff. We were going rock hunting and then paint them but will do that next week now.

Off to the mainland tomorrow to get some more material for YS house. Also have to pay for the rest of our cruise. Roll on Feb. That time will go quickly. Seeing as we're free tonight might really let our hair down and go to the Bowls Club for tea. :D I've got leftover Spinach Pie but I can have that Saturday night. Got Benny (our dog) hair cut today and it's really too short. I never knew he had brown blotches on his skin. It'll take ages to grow back but it will be cooler for summer.

YS is arriving home for a visit on Monday so really looking forward to seeing him. Been trying out another bread recipe and it's really good. Think I'll stick to this one.

    to the new posters.
    Snowy Great news. :T

Hope everyone is well & happy. <hugs> to those that need them. Byeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Morning. Ooops I did not see the earlier post, must have been early and got burried down the list

Are you ready to have your house covered in eggs? Kids knock on your door and ask for sweets?

I am off to work soon and then home in time for all the aggravation. I did get some sweets just in case, although I live fairly rural.

Went to a store yesterday that had been taken over by a new company, so they were selling off all the old stock. I got a trolley full of good bargains including loads of lawn food and plant food for 50p each from £4. Hoses for 50p, patio cleaner and BBQ cleaner 24p, etc it was great. They had Colorol bedding that was £80 now £10. I wonder if I bought things I don't need?
    anyway it was cheap....

Well, hope you all have a good day...

A number of jobs today. Mainly of the xmas variety. I need to clarify with a few people about xmas presents that they want me to get for them. Once that is done then I will place an order.

I've pickedup all of the lego from the woolworths / mirror offer. So that's all to one side for a pressie. I've heard its books next week. I just hope its somewhere I can get to.

I am also expecting a bit of cash to come my way today. If it does I have a few checks and balances to sort, and if everything is okay then I might buy my little girl some xmas pressies out of it. Its money to be honest I'm not expecting. So if it does come though its a bonus. I just need to make sure that all the IR stuff has been paid on it.

Lounge is a tip....full of lily's toys. Kitchen isn't too bad.

I'm not in the mood for tidying up today. I feel like lounging at the moment.

    Its nto going anywhere.

Sorted - well sort of - for the day. Been thinking along lines of marking the change of seasons bit - so looking up traditional recipes. I gather colcannon is one of them for tonight - so off out looking for some cabbage today. Colcannon and red wine - not sure if thats quite the idea - well I'm trying. Got myself a pumpkin in and was thinking along lines of pumpkin pie - but couldnt find a decent recipe - guess I'll be making a sort of pumpkin version of carrot cake I came across - unless someone has a better recipe for me?

    Have a good one.

    Good Morning to Everyone

Wooohoooo Halloween.I love this time of year and its sooooo much more exciting these days than when I was a kid.My four have all got their costumes ready. The eldest is going to a house party and the rest of us are going to the local park for a Halloween Festival with Fireworks and Funfair.

Not much going on OS today as I'm off to the market to bag a few bargains.Hoping to find some pickling onions and red cabbage as last years pickles are running dangerously low now.

Tea tonight will be the rest of last nights pizza sauce turned into pasta sauce.Need to put the BM and WM on

N9EAV There'd better not be any eggs hitting my windows as I wont be in!

MSD Hope you feel better soon

EEK, i`ve just noticed that there are two threads on the go so i shall paste my message over here :D

Morning N9eav and all who cross/follow

I`ve been MIA for a few days mainly due to w*rking lots of overtiime and also because i`ve been ill with a stinkin cold and sore throat.
I`m struggling along as i`ve only 3 more days to w*rk and then i`ve a week off :j fingers crossed that i`ll make it.

Yesterday was my day off and i managed to clean the bedroom and put the rest of the winter bedding on as it`s so cold now, i`m afraid that the heating is now on too despite wearing layers of clothes as i just haven`t been able to get warm, i have all the heaters on here at w*rk and it`s still chilly.

On the good side i`ve made a huge bowl of lentil and bacon soup to last a couple of days and a giant dish of sausage and onion pasta so that will help lots in the way of keeping warm :D

I`ve had a lovely bowl of porridge this morning and although it wasn`t ready brek but proper porridge i can feel the "glow" so to speak so i shall continue this now as i can definitely feel the benefit, when i get home tonight we shall have the soup and i shall make rolls to go with it then hopefully an early night in the extra warm bed.

I need to clean the bathroom and do some ironing but they may have to wait until i feel up to it. The car windows were completely iced over and i was unprepared for it, i think that i shall try the vinegar and water spray at night that someone mentioned an see if it`s any better tomorrow.

I shall try and catch up on the last few days later - hope i`ve not missed anything important and that everyone is well.
    ((((HUGS)))) for everyone today!
Catch up later peeps and have a good day.

Snowy, what good news, it must be the first time I've ever got excited about a cat's poo. Like Glad I also wondered if it was the vet or Dylan who was going to get a kiss.
Mad runaround for me today, the spare room, which is ready for the lodger, looks so nice, all tidy & polished that it shows up the rest of the house & made me realise how bad I've let it get. I do hate housework with a passion, but feel all enthused today. I'll have another cuppa in a mo & the feeling will probably wear off, lol.
    Have a good day.
    Hugs Hester

WM is on its last load then the bin is empty:j :j :j and OH has just emptied the DW. House clean and tidy and toilet has been scrubbed:p

Not sure what we are doing today as I have a hospital visit but DD and OH want to go and see the new James Bond film but not sure if Im up to it. Will need to see how I go.

    Twink-Glad you got your Remoska!!

    Hugs to everyone.

I would be very grateful for these recipes. If only to reassure myself that my cooking is not so odd after all.:eek::confused::confused::eek::confused:

Bats Blood and slime soup = Tomato & Basil Soup
Severed fingers = cheese scone dough made into finger shapes with red pepper or tomato "fingernails"
Cobweb cakes = fairy cakes with icing webs on them; pipe a spiral on an iced fairy cake and drag a cocktail stick alternately from the edge to the middle and from the centre to the edge to give a cobweb effect.
