Online Supplies?

Options
I live on a small Orkney island. We have three tiny shops, what used to be called `corner` shops down south. ;)
They are pretty good at getting in essentials though, even after all this time, there`s never any bread nor milk on a Monday til the night time ferry has been in. :)
But basics that others take for granted...lentils and other pulses, pasta, flour etc...cost an absolute fortune here....a small pack of pasta for example costs up to two pounds, bread flour ditto, I pay well over a pound for a white loaf, and even though I make my own a lot, with the cost of bread flour and yeast it doesn`t actually work out that much cheaper! :(
Due to my financial situation at the moment, I can`t afford to get over to Orkney mainland where there is a Lidl and Tesco...and from what I hear from those who can, they are shoving their prices up too! :)
But I wondered if there are any sites online I can maybe purchase bulk bags of pulses, pasta or flour etc?
If so, are they all retail suppliers that require you to buy in very large quantities? I can`t afford that if so.
Any info or links greatly appreciated. :)

Sorry Icewytch, I can't help you, but I saw that your post had already slipped down to page 2 so thought I'd "bump" it back to page 1 where more people will notice it!:) Hopefully someone will be able to help, good luck.

    There is http://www.cairnfoods.co.uk/

These are based in Scotland.....I'm not sure whether or not, they are trade only, but it's always worth giving them a call to see if they can cut you a deal.

Truth be told, I've searched high and low for what you are seeking, and found nothing that can compare with the likes of Asda/Tesco/Morrisons value ranges. They can afford to cut their prices :(

Could an option be to get someone from mainland Britain to ship you a food parcel every couple of weeks? Even with courier charges, I would imagine you'll save quite a bit. Value pasta is around 20p per half kilo, so not expensive at all :)
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.

Otherwise, can you get a few friends together and put a larger bulk order in?

I forget how easy it is for us with lots of shops (and reduced items)
  • the trouble is a lot of places charge a small fortune for delivery to the Highlands and Islands don't they :(
  • Thinking if you could somehow get together with others in the same position - a community card for a wholesaler? But, I do see the problem - and then the shopkeeper gets undercut and you could lose what you have got?
    Sorry not much help......Mx
