Metal marks on crockery
A while back I bought some of that cheap plain white crockery from Marks and Spencer - it's called "Andante". It has gradually built up lots of what appear to be scratch marks, which I assumed to be a consequence of buying cheap. However, some of the marks are quite broad and look like grey pencil marks. Also one bowl has…

OS virgin.
Hello! I'm a bit of a lurker on this board and I'm always inspired by all you domestic goddesses. I am a million miles away from being OS but I really want to be! So, today I'm taking the plunge and I have made.....wait for it.... bread (with free fresh yeast from Mr T which I found out about on this thread. Thank you!)…

How to freshen up dry-clean only silk?
Help! I bought a gorgeous top from Ebay for a Christmas night out but when it's arrived it has a strong smell of sweat _pale_ It's marked dry-clean only, the fabric is silk and it is covered with lots of tiny pleats which apparently are not permanent but need to be ironed back in. For this reason I'm reluctant to wash it -…

I know there are hundreds of posts with recipes, but I can't plough through all of them at the moment as am trying to pretend that I'm actually doing some work ;) I bought a joint (?) of salt beef yesterday, and would love to cook it overnight so I can have it in my sandwiches tomorrow. Only problem is....I've…

Full Fat Cream cheese
Morning All, I have a carrot cake recipe (yes, THAT one, Freya's Mum!) :D which for the topping requires full fat cream cheese. Looked in Morrison's and they have only f/f soft cheese - i.e. Philadelphia and no f/f CREAM cheese. Is this the correct cheese or should I be buying something else? I don't want to…

winter squash

Not meal planning, but cheaper...
Prior to the last couple of weeks I'd been meal planning. I'd do a fortnightly shop, then top it up with fresh items as needed. Then I started a new job, and it became a little harder for me to meal plan as I couldn't get to do that fortnightly shop, and was getting home a bit later so some of my menu steady items were…

Soft drinks without sweeteners
I packed up drinking alcohol a fortnight ago, so have been buying lots of soft drinks instead. I always buy the non-diet ones, in the belief that they don't contain too many nasties, but on reading the labels I notice that most of them contain "sugar and sweeteners", including the dreaded aspartame. I am annoyed about…

Jams/Marmalade with Alcohol In.....
I am thinking of attempting to make some nice jams for Xmas gifts this year - put them in nice jars with stickers/ribbon etc etc.... Anyway would like to make more 'special' ones than the norm and recently saw a strawberry and champagne jam and an orange and whiskey marmalade. I will be making them in my breadmaker and…

Glue to fix boots
Dear all Does anyone know what sort of glue i need to use, to fix up my winter boots. I'd love to buy some new ugg type, but can't afford these.
