Lesson number one about organic food boxes.
Lesson: Don't depend on them as the vans can break down and you can be left with nothing to eat that is fresh. I think this is rather a large problem with these places that supply these boxes that they don't have the capacity to say for certain they can put on an extra delivery another day if anything like a break down…

My neighbour has a huge tree, the majority of which overhangs my garden. It has green plums on it, only for some reason I don't think they are plums:confused: :rotfl: ! they are a lovely yellowy-green colour at the mo but a lot have already started falling off. I'm sure they could just be plums but instinct tells me…

Very ripe greengages
I have been given about 5lbs of ripe greengages by my friend from the tree in her garden, and I don't know what to do with them. They are a bit marked and bruised and not really for just eating, but I thought I might have a go at making chutney (don't think I would like greengage jam). Does anyone have any recipes? I have…

Freezing Dairy Produce
I have noticed a few people mentioning freezing milk/cheese, I have never done this. Is it ok to freeze this stuff? and if so, does it defrost well? I often see big lumps of cheese on offer, but don't buy it as it is expensive to get and it wouldn't all get eaten quickly enough...but it would be good if I could cut it up…

OS 'Conversion' chart.
One of the things that gets me is that I walk around a supermarket and I see tasty things (mainly pre-prepared) and I think 'I can make it cheaper than this'. But when I work out the cost of a one off set of ingredients it can work out roughly the same - especially when adding your time! Then it hit me, it's because I'm…

Feeding friends cheaply in School hols?
I'm finding it difficult to stick on budget and feed DS2's friends now that the school hols have begun and they are staying all day - meaning 1 or 2 meals. I'm not stingy but I can't palm them off with toast and jam when they are here from dawn to dusk. He normally just has one or two at a time and they seem to eat…

How to get rid of burnt smell from microwave
Yesterday I managed to burn pop corn in my microwave and the extent of the damage was to crack the glass turntable in two. The microwave has a burnt layer on the inside, and I can't get rid of a dreadful burnt smell from the house. Has anyone any tips on how I can get rid of the burnt smell and burn marks in the microwave?…
