Hi everyone, I made a sausage and mash dinner today with onion and mushroom gravy and it was delicious.
I live alone and whenever I make a cooked dinner, I do 2 one to eat on the day, and I eat the other normally the day after, I keep the 2nd dinner in the fridge with a cover over it, now assuming I don't feel like the dinner the following day how long is it safe to keep in the fridge ? thanks

I do the same as you incidentally

I freeze meals like this all the time and they are fine, but I would keep covered in the fridge upto 2-3 days.

I'm a coward - probably wouldn't keep in the fridge longer than until the next day, but would happily freeze!Resolution:

I used to have a cooking day on a Sunday and made enough meals to do me until the following Friday. These were mainly mince or chicken based dishes and I kept them in portion sized boxes to take out when needed. I never had any problems with the food going off. I always let the dishes cool and transferred them to the fridge as soon as possible. If I knew it wasn't going to get used then it would go into the freezer.
I am now thinking.....why am I not that organised now??Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D
Every day is a new challenge not a new problem!:p

I agree with the 2-3 days camp
although I'm sure I've eaten things that have been around a quite a bit longer than that & lived to tell the tale0 -
I'm terrible, if it's not eaten on the day it's cooked then I have to chuck it, unless I can freezer it first of course. I'm the same with best before dates, I would rarely eat something with today's date on it and definately never if it was yesterdays. I think I must've been scarred by a bad bout of food poisoning in my earlier years!!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
