Yesterday I managed to burn pop corn in my microwave and the extent of the damage was to crack the glass turntable in two.
The microwave has a burnt layer on the inside, and I can't get rid of a dreadful burnt smell from the house.
Has anyone any tips on how I can get rid of the burnt smell and burn marks in the microwave?
Thanks

If youv'e burnt the inside of the microwave you may have damaged it; I would call somewhere that repairs them and see what they say.0

throughout the house is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!
I feel so stupid - I put a roast in our convection microwave for an hour and I went upstairs; I got distracted by the phone and when I smelt the most awful smell i realized it was burnt. :embarasse
I had had put it on microwave setting instead of oven setting - I am so annoyed with myself... what a waste...
It happened about half an hour ago; my son has just gone and sprayed air freshener round the house...
I just cant seem to get rid of this awful chemical smell. even with all the windows open and the fans on.
Any advice please because its really getting me down.
Thanks

try microwaving a lemon chopped in half for a minute, i have heard this is suppose to remove bad odours in micros, as for the rest of the house have you any of those sprays like furbreeze which are suppose to nutralize bad smells. keep your windows open. xOne day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

My kids have these bears filled with wheat bags that you warm up in the microwave. One of them got left in too long and caught fire for a few seconds. The inside of the microwave now has a brownish tinge and smells of burnt wheat! I don't want to put bleach in it in case it taints the smell of other food. How do i get rid of the stain and the smell. Thank you.0

My Dad overcooked a sausage roll in our microwave and achieved the same effect - smoke pouring out the vents!
I cleaned the inside out with bicarb and boiling water, wiping down all surfaces, door, etc. I then microwaved a small bowl containing two half lemons inside to freshen it up.
The smell went away after this. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I second the lemons suggestion, lime has worked for us too when we don't have a lemon. You can "cook" them in the water for a few minutes and it gives it a really good clean, I'd wipe down the inside of the microwave again after the lemon blast just in case it has loosened any other burnt bits and bobs, works a treat.:staradmin0

I would go for the lemon thing too. Good luck0

diluted lemon juice in warm water with a dash of fairy liquid works wonders. Also unplugging the mircowave and leaving the door open for a few days will get rid of the smell for sure.
