Hi all
I have been thinking for a while of getting slow cooker and have had mixed reviews when I have mentioned it to people.
Can anyone give me any advice on this as to whether they could recommend one and what they cook in them....

Hi there,
There are some real slow-cooker addicts out there that will be able to give you lots of advice, I am a relative novice with mine but I really think it's useful. I haven't used it much over the "summer" but when it's cold it's excellent for stews. I made lovely lamb shanks in it and also big batches of bolognese. It makes cheap cuts of meat (braising steak etc) taste like the finest most fillet steak and it's real;ly good for hearty food. Mine is also a steamer and rice cooker but I haven't used these functions yet.

I have a morphy richards 3.5Litre and find it great. The best thing about them is that you leave your dinner on in the morning and it is hot waiting for you in the evening. It apparently only uses the electricity of a light bulb. You just have to brown your meat/chicken and add the rest of the ingredients and off you go. If I use carrots though, I tend to cook in the microwave for 10 mins first as they seem to be still hard. Best things I make in my sc are : Chilli con carne, Bolognese sauce, chicken chasseur, chicken curry and I keep trying new recipes. This size sc has been fine for me as I cook pasta, rice, potatoes separately. If you are into big joints of meat, you might be better with the bigger model, but the chilli sauce I make is enough to make at least 2 days worth of dinners for 4 people i.e. 8 persons. The chicken is so tender when cooked in the slow cooker.Penny xxx
