Old fashioned bartering
Can't get much more OS than that can you? Even though my hubby is leaving his job, his (soon to be ex) boss has allowed us half a field to grow veggies on as long as we grow some spuds for him. The lady next door to us works packing free-range eggs for Tesco at a local egg farm but her kids are allergic to eggs so we swap,…

My mum is having visitors this afternoon and one is on a gluten free diet and the other is vegetarian. She will probably have soup in the…

Using water from tumble drier
Not very OS I know but I do sometimes use our condenser tumble drier when I can't dry clothes outside. Anyone got any ideas for how I can re-use the water it generates. It has a 5L capacity and it seems a shame to just pour it away but am I right in thinking that it will be lacking in minerals and unsuitable for watering…

The Organised Handbag
I'm thinking about sewing myself a handbag organiser like these here. Unfortunately the pics aren't very big, but I figure I can work out a pattern pretty easily (and make it fit my MP3 player, purse, and phone perfectly!). I'm not a particularly experienced sewer and only recently got a sewing machine, so I'm looking for…

cleaning a wool rug
Hi I have a 100% wool rug which is in a corner with a coffee table on so I hadn't noticed that my pup had been peeing on it until I smelled it :o Judging from the stains underneath she may have peed quite a few times. It's quite new and was expensive so I'd like to try and save it. I'm thinking of dousing it in a bio soap…

I have never made a curry and would love to do a mild one in my slow cooker this week, so bascially I am looking for a fairly simple receipe which I can elaborate on as I get more experienced. If someone could come to my…

I went to Mr T's this lunch time to buy fruit for the office and a few bits for me (juice, puffpastry and cat food lol) and as I was stood in the queue waiting to pay I looked round like I always do and found in front of me was a lady of the "ration" generation (sorry if that offends anyone... just mean that she certainly…
