Minimum outlay year 2007
Last year, I made plans to pay off my mortgage in two years. This did not work out, as I never got around to changing the Endowment mortgage for a repayment one. What I did manage however was to start accumulating money intended to be towards paying off a chunk of the mortgage when I finally got around to changing it.…

Hand Made Soap - FALLS APART - Solution
All those lovely hand made soaps the kids got for Xmas - the ones with pretty patterns through them seem to fall apart as soon as they hit the water. We popped the bits in a jug the microwave and nuke for a min or so - lined a shallow dish with baking paper (screw it up into a ball first as it is then easier to push into…

January is the month for OS ...
... homemade Seville Marmalade Save those jars from your mincemeat! Seville oranges are in season this month and it's time to make homemade marmalade. Tip: If you don't have time to make it, freeze the fruit and make it later but you'll need to add extra lemon juice as freezing will lower the pectin content; add 1 Tbsp…

:hello: Gooooooood Morning fellow OS’ers :D :D :D Wee bit earlier than I’d planned, but as it’s back to school this morning it’s one of those “worried I’ll oversleep” days – well, we have been rather lazy and not getting up to an alarm for a couple of weeks so a bit out of practise  - trouble is, I’ve ended up…

Washing Pesticides off Vegetables
What is the best way to wash pesticides off fruit and vegetables? I wash mine under cold running water, but I was wondering if this is adequate, particularly with cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and the like? With fruit, tomatoes, cucumber I wash under the tap and dry with kitchen paper but don't normally wipe the veg - bit…

banana glut
If you have a breadmaker there's a brilliant recipe on here somewhere for banana tea loaf that I've made several of when I've got a glut of bananas past their best. I add a few sultanans to it too and it freezes well. If not, banana splits, banana and cold custard, banoffie pie, fritters.

Just made my first soup!
And it was FABULOUS :j :j :j It was a leek & potato using up the last of the christmas/new year veggies (rather than throw them, I thought I'd give soup a go!) and tasted absolutely wonderful. out of date smoked salmon
My Mam gave me some leftover smoked salmon after Christmas, and I put it in my fridge, intending to batch it up and freeze it, then forgot all about it! It's dated 27th December - I'm guessing that it's too late to save it now? I would only use it for cooking with, straight from the freezer.....
