Sometimes OS is just too good for words
Hi everyone :) I've made some good virtual friends here on MSE and that's even more true in Old Style. It's my second home and you're all like good friends and family, though I guess, when I pull the Grumpy Board Guide Stuff, you're not quite so sure. Ho hum :) Goes with the territory. Anyway... that's not why I'm writing…

Inspiration from Granny
I have been feeling rather down over the last couple of days. A combination of debt worries, exam worries, lack of male influence  and general feeling sorry for myself. :( Anyway, this morning I got sick and tired of studying and decided some cooking therapy was the way forward. We want to blow the shell out so we can keep it for posterity, so boiled eggs are out. If we get another one today, we'll make a cake, but want to be prepared in case…

read about this in the Times today, Jane Shilling's column - she is trying to cut down on spending. a bunch of people in San Francisco have made a pact (compact) for 2006 - not to buy anything new except food, medicine and essential underwear/shoes (ie not designer or just because you fancy it.) anything else needed -…

Saving Electric, quick question:
OK, so everyone knows not to leave the TV (etc etc) on standby and to fit energy saving light bulbs and that stuff. But do things without lights on them use electric? Is my toaster and kettle using electric? Does electric flow through my mobile phone charger - which is not charging my phone at the mo, but is nonetheless…

The chicken fat/stock stuff at the bottom of the tin
Hello there! This may see like a really stupid question, but when you roast a chicken and there's all those lovely juices at the bottom of the roasting tin, what can you do with them? I wasn't making gravy at the time, and I've poured them into a mug and popped it into the fridge. It seems a waste to throw it away, so what…
