Any old iron?

Do "old iron" men still come round and buy scrap iron?
We have a big and heavey 99inch by 48 inch old iron gate. Could we sell it somewhere for something?

Check your local council's website. They will have a recycyling section which will include a list of scrap merchants in your area with links to their sites if they have one.

Alternatively you could try giving it away, since that will be cheaper than have to pay for its disposal... https://www.freecycle.org

Good luck. I think the price per ton of iron isn't very high, so it's unlikely that they will want to come out to collect what to them will be a small amount.

If they're in reasonable condition, or could be sorted out by someone who's handy you could try selling (or offering free if they'll collect(?)) to a reclamation yard.

Call your council and see if they have a bulky rubbish collection service. Our council have one and it is run by the same department that do the bin collections. We've used ours to get rid of an old bath, old beds, doors and wardrobes.

Give your local reclaimed building supplies place a ring. That is a big gate and it's bound to be worth something.
