M42 Junction 3a to 2 - Cameras?
Hi, Does anyone know what the poles on the side of the M42 are from junction 3a to 2 (Hopwood services) . They are spaced out every couple of hundred metres on the side of the motorway and have a square pod on them? I know 3a to 7 the other way is full of cameras - but going from 3a to 2 are these also cameras? Thanks v…

Pot Hole damage
Hi all, My partner recently hit a 'pothole' which was 110mm deep, 500mm wide and 1000mm long, which is no small thing! The councils defence is that they cannot pay out as they did not know about it. Is this a suitable defence? because in my eyes whether they knew about it or not it was still caused by their road, which we…

Why do newer cars have separate controls for front and rear headlights?
I'm not talking about daytime running lights. The amount of times I've flashed or pulled over/alongside drivers to tell them the rear headlights aren't on. Only seems to affect newish cars. The front dipped lights are on and I suspect drivers are oblivious to the rear ones being off until being challenged by another road…

Thanks Resolver!
Thanks to resolver, I managed to get a 47% discount on a replacement Dualogic selector system on my Fiat Qubo, although out of warranty. The job was going to cost £1600 (they replace the entire units not repair them) at Stoneacre Wrexham, and a 'technical goodwill request' to Fiat by the dealership fell on deaf ears. The…

Zafira safety recall
My 08 Zafira petrol had it's third safety recall on Wednesday. The blower resistor was replaced, Thursday the ( car with a spanner) Engine electronics, transmission electronic, diesel fuel filter immobiliser came on and went off today it's come on and stayed on. Is it connected in anyway to the work Vauxhall carried out…

Grounds for rejecting a car
In July I bought a nearly new (reg'd March) car from a well-known chain dealer (2-words, second rhymes with spark). After a week or so I started noticing a few relatively minor but irritating issues - vibration from the dash, vibration from the driver-side door (which stopped when I put my elbow on it) and, what I think is…

Car written off at music festival
My daughter recently attended the Festival Number 6 at Portmeirion. When she returned to her car it was working fine but the car park had flooded and the mud was so deep tractors were needed to extricate all the vehicles. There was no option to leave it there as the organisers needed the site clearing. When she got her car…

car accident - worth settling privately?
I scraped a stationary car in a narrow road a couple of days ago and left my details. The owner came back to me and has said that the scrapes on the bumper would cost £280 incl VAT - he got a quote through a garage mechanic he knows rather than go through the main dealership which would definitely be expensive. It was an…

PCP and PCH
Hi all, I've read the difference between these options, and to me they sound almost identical. With the PCH it sounded like there is no initial up front payment? I also read they can be cheaper monthly figures than PCP, yet there is no option to buy the car at the end - so I guess equity is completely irrelevant. So, when…

What would you do with a car to be declared SORN for 12 months?
Just something i was thinking about today. To keep it brief... Assume you were going to declare your car SORN for 12 months, what would you do with it in preparation? * Fill the fuel tank up full so there's less space for condensation maybe? * Would you leave the engine oil in there as is or would you put new stuff in it…

best time for lease car quotes...
I lease a car through work and am coming towards the end of the lease period, so am in the process of picking another car. I want to save a bit of money so am looking at cheaper cars, which when comparing quotes with colleagues it's suprising what cars can work out cheaper!! A colleague with the same mileage as me pays…

Car Untaxed After Moving House
We moved house last month I sent off my V5 to the DVLA with section 6 filled out including leaving the 'New Keeper?' box unticked. When I got the new V5 I thought it was a bit strange the 'acquired vehicle on' date was the date I moved house and not the original purchase date but figured it was just because we 'acquired'…

Any advice on negotiating with a dealer, for a "nearly new" car?
Hi everyone, I'm hunting around for a nearly new car with low milage and I've got a couple of possibilities that I've spotted at two main dealers, one local and one 100 miles away. I have the cash to purchase but I've read that it can get a discount by taking out finance, then immediately paying it off. Can anyone take me…

Servicing Stop - watch out!
I used Servicing Stop for the first time today. They quoted me £875 to get through my MOT, so I asked around three local garages - all gave me quotes under £300. I also had to literally argue with the customer service guy on the phone that my car doesn't need 'special' oil costing £25, which was no fun. I even phoned up…

Bad Garage repairs advice
Hi, I could really do with some advice about car repairs gone wrong. My 2009 Vauxhall Insignia estate had a new clutch & dual mass flywheel fitted at my usual garage in April at a cost of £1200, I took it away & drove it for a week, then it started leaking fluid, so I took it back to garage who said it was an elbow joint…

Challenge incorrect insurance telematics data?
My son was involved in a 3 car shunt on a motorway. I was in the car as well. We were hit from behind (whilst stationary) and shunted into the car in front. This is reality. The guy even admitted it at the time but was not recorded. Our car had a black box (he was in his 1st year of driving) which our insurance company…

What are these lights?
I've seen them on the A2, they're on a gantry above the carriageway and are a row of bright white lights, there's a offset 'L' shape on the road. Are they some sort of speed camera?
