M42 Junction 3a to 2 - Cameras?
Hi,
Does anyone know what the poles on the side of the M42 are from junction 3a to 2 (Hopwood services) .
They are spaced out every couple of hundred metres on the side of the motorway and have a square pod on them?
I know 3a to 7 the other way is full of cameras - but going from 3a to 2 are these also cameras?
Thanks v much

As mentioned in your other thread I believe these may be used for traffic monitoring. They are not cameras.0

Yes, traffic monitoring part of the Active Traffic Management system.
The speed cameras are on the overhead gantries and, AFAIK only active when reduced speed limit enforced (but don't take my word for it I've not tried it out).

Just drive within the speed limit and you don't need to worry about them.0

Many managed motorways are now being enforced at 10% +2 mph when signs not lit.
If you drive on the M4/M5 in the Bristol area and do 79 or above in the active area with nothing lit, expect an unwanted gift in the post.0 -
Thanks all - I think they must be monitoring only as wongataa mentions.
The cameras are 3a to 9 the other way...well I hope so0 -

So much for speed cameras only being deployed where there's a need, e.g. at accident black-spots, which as I recall was the excuse to bring them in originally.0 -
I spotted a grey painted camera hung off the side of the gantries facing Northbound at about J4/5 on the M42. It would appear to be in keeping with the 'stealth' cameras fitted to the managed sections of the M6 which apparently are always active.0
