Compare cost of journeys
Sometimes I have the choice of going on the motorway for 45 miles or through town for 29 miles. Now obviously a) the distances vary and b) the fuel efficiency per mile will vary. Assuming that there is no traffic problems (which of course is not predictable so can be ignored). Is there any way I can calculate the amount of…

Taxing a vehicle after declaring sorn
I acquired a vehicle and declared it as SORN as it wasn't insured and I wanted to have it checked/mot'd before being driven. Thankfully all good, service, cambelt and MOT. Now, I cant tax the vehicle, apparently DVLA requires 5 working days after the sorn application to make any changes to the vehicle tax and I need to…

Why don't people include the price?
When they are trying to sell their car with a board in the window? I'm walking past with the dog, and I think "Ooh shiny car for sale- how much?" and they have a huge 'phone number, but no price. If I saw it was a bargain, I might 'phone and even impulse buy it. The first question on the 'phone would be "How much?". Do…

belt or chain?
I have a Skoda Octavia estate, 62 plate, 1.4 tsi petrol. I am getting conflicting information about whether the car has a timing belt or a chain. If its a belt then as the car is coming up to 4 years old it would need an expensive belt and water pump change. The car has don 38000 miles. Any answers most welcome.

Why dashcams are so important.
Last Sunday evening I had a car accident where another vehicle decided to pull out of a stationary queue of traffic as I was passing him. He was in lane 1, I was in lane 2. This resulted in the front nearside corner of my car being mashed, along with the rear offside corner of the car in front of him. He of course denied…

I was caught speeding 98 in 70 and pulled over by unmarked police car in dual carriageway A50 (Derbyshire?). I was given the slip with code SV77011. Police man didn't tell anything apart from that I will be contacted by post (I think). I know it will be a court summon. Will I get a ban? if yes, 7-28 days, how long? P.s. I…

Hi all Long story short I have an 18month old 3 door corsa which I brought new. I'm sure this has been discussed before but can't really find anything. I'm about to take delivery of a new car and, as predicted, the dealer tried to sell me all sorts of insurance products (alloy wheel, damage etc). But the one that has always confused me is gap insurance. I'd be interested to hear anyone's comments…

Caught speeding - what to do.
Frist time in 11 years, I've got a speeding ticket. I believe am a very good driver. I always abid by the rules/speed limits and never had any problem before. I know the road I got the ticket, its a big road with wide lanes however it got a 20mph limit. The size of the road makes one think it has a 30mph limit. On the…

Small scuff on the rear corner of FILs & slight dent on a panel of the other. FIL isn't going to claim for his damage. Am I right in thinking this will be 50-50 as they…

Speeding fine
Hi I have just received a fine which I am going to pay and take the points but wondered if there's any kind of appeal after it has been paid. I can not go to court as I find it impossible to talk in person but do think that I could win of I did. I was on a duel carriageway and came to a 50 sign which was 350 yards from a…

Emac Service plan

After the service I signed an invoice which had a cost for £260. Now I know already that the I have been ripped off for an oil change and spark plugs for £260.…
