I was caught speeding 98 in 70 and pulled over by unmarked police car in dual carriageway A50 (Derbyshire?). I was given the slip with code SV77011. Police man didn't tell anything apart from that I will be contacted by post (I think).

I know it will be a court summon. Will I get a ban? if yes, 7-28 days, how long?

P.s. I already have 3 points from last year for doing 78 in 50 M1.

UPDATE: I got a letter on 21/09/2016. To my surprise I was given a choice either course or fix penalty. I chose course of course which I paid 92 pounds. Booked 2nd November somewhere in Derby hotel.

Thanks again for all your suggestions.

  • Most likely outcome will be a fine of up to £1000, but inline with your wage and 4-6 points. A ban however is possible.

For travelling at 28 mph above the legal limit, with a recent history of exactly the same offence, you will almost certainly receive a ban. The ban will be more than 7 - 28 days. Together with a large fine. And you will deserve it.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

    And you base that on?

    Not so.

The magistrates' guidelines indicate 4-6 points or a ban of NOT more than 28 days, plus a fine of about a week's wages.

What on earth were you doing that was so important that it was worth risking the lives and safety of other road users?

He could have been the only vehicle on the road. Remember he's only being done for speeding.

I haven't speeded since then. It changed my whole outlook. Marginal speeding is bad (I was caught at 55mph on a dual carriageway link road) but the OP is not about marginal speeding.

But you were as guilty as he is, you committed the same criminal offence.
