Yes, I would suggest speed limits are considered with certain criteria, which includes the average road conditions on an average day.

Are you suggesting we should have speed limits based on weather conditions or seasons?
    No. I didn't think so.

Suggesting everyone should drive at the speed limit in all conditions is clearly just stupid, and a stupid comment to make. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the sentiment of your post but it's not just about an inappropriate speed.
I based my post on an average road, on an average day, which driving at the speed limit would more than likely be fine.

The driver does need to learn, but low penalities doesn't seem to be the way to teach people - see the OP's post for an example.

Why not have weather based speed limits? France and Italy do! Remember the mass crash from a few years ago?

So there would be higher limits than at present when the weather is fine?

You do on motorways - the advisory limit on the boards for adverse weather and incidents......and nobody takes the blindest bit of notice!

As for speeding, looking at points and a fine, the fine will be higher as you have done the same before and have shown disregard for the law and your penalty, so prepare to be hit this time.

I am doubtful of a ban. The rest depends on the manner of driving, you'll have to wait for the summons and see what they are charging you with before passing any judgements of making assumptions.

You are only assuming speeding, CPS usually like a back-up charge for legal cases. Driving without due care or similar (not saying this is possible in your case as not seen evidence). Without knowing that, it is impossible to suggest anything.

I would just sit back and decide what to do when the court date comes through.

People don't take any notice of these advisory limits because usually, in my experience, the reason for them has long since passed. I notice this time and time again on the M5. I wonder whether it is because the authorities just forget to turn them off.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

No. In France and Italy there are posted speed limits in case of rain or fog they also have this in Germany. I was driving in Italy last week and being a good Italian speaker, I noticed the signs...

No - look at it the other way - lower limits when the conditions are poor and visibility is reduced.

Several countries have flexible limits like that.

Motorcycles should be exempt from speed limits :-)

It's inappropriate speed that's the problem not exceeding the limit.

Absolutely, bad driving kills. And standards on our roads are not improving unfortunately.

My biggest pet hate is people who do 40 in a 60 and then, as they enter a 30, just carry on at 40.

Probably the same people who hog the middle lane of the motorway.

That's both my pet hates too, but they are NOT the same people IMVHO.
