Caught speeding - what to do.

Frist time in 11 years, I've got a speeding ticket.
I believe am a very good driver. I always abid by the rules/speed limits and never had any problem before. I know the road I got the ticket, its a big road with wide lanes however it got a 20mph limit. The size of the road makes one think it has a 30mph limit. On the notice of intended prosecution it states I was doing 27mph.
So I meet the criteria, I believe, for the driver education course. I am guessing its better to do the course than pay a £100 fine and get 3 points.
When I come to renew my insurance do I need to mention I had to do the course? How much is the cause and how long does it take?
Many thanks

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer - I was in my late 20s when I figured out what this meant.
I neither take or enter agreements which deal with interest. I dont want to profit from someone's misery.

You're probably best off looking at www.pepipoo.com if you want to look at challenging it - if not take the Driver Improvement Course option
Out of interest where in the country were you unlucky enough to find a prosecutable 20mph limit ?0 -

I don't think you meet the criteria for a speed awareness course.
It is down to the individual Police Force, but I believe they use APCO guidelines as part of heir decision process.
20mph + 10% + 2mph gives 25mph.
I think you will find anything higher is a Fixed Penalty.
My personal opinion is that 20mph limits are largely pointless and if they are there to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety then they should only be in operation during peak hours.
As criminally intentioned drivers simply ignore them as they can't be traced anyway so the only people that will get prosecuted and fined are the law abiding majority that are rarely involve in the speeding and careless or reckless driving that the 20mph limits are in place to reduce
Just another way for the Political class to beat the population into submission
One thing to consider is that you missed the 20mph signs.0 -

Not for the first time, you are incorrect. Consideration for a Speed awareness course is 10% +9 so OP is within the threshold.0 -

No the threshold you have quoted is whether any ation will be taken at all.

"Always" might be a bit of an exaggeration...So I meet the criteria, I believe, for the driver education course.
It's not for you to say. You would need to be offered one. When I come to renew my insurance do I need to mention I had to do the course?
If they ask, absolutely. It's really only the various Admiral brands who ask.How much is the cause and how long does it take?
£80-90ish, and half a day, usually. It may vary depending on the area.0 -

The Met Police use APCO guidelines when deciding to offer a course.
Or that's what I was told on my course in the Met area several years ago.
And since I got a NIP instead of a course for 36 in a 30 I would say that proves the previous information I was given as correct.
As ACPO guidelines would be 3+2 making 35 the cut off for a course.
If your table was correct why was I not offered a course?
Had been well overthrew years since the previous one.0 -

No idea, perhaps they took a dislike to you, not sure how that's possible.:D
So based on your understand who would be offered a course?0 -

So explain how I didn't get offered a course for 36 in a 30?
Reread my post and get somebody to help you understand the written word a bit better.
You do realise you can't actually be wrong when voicing an opinion don't you?
It is and remains my opinion
What is your rank in the Police?
I assume you work in the department that deals with speeding offence so and speed awareness courses?
As that is the only way you can definitively say my opinion is incorrect.
If what you actually mean really meant was you have a different opinion then that is what you should have said.
Then put forward EVIDENCE to show why your opinion differs.
As I have already said my opinion is based on the fact I wasn't offered a course for 36 in a 30.
I did get 3 points for 41 (might have been 42) in a 30 on my Scooter.(back in 2012)
So why wasn't I given a course then?
Based on my experience the table above and you are wrong.
Seems strange that you state I am wrong (apparently not for the first time) but in my limited dealings I am 100% spot on.
Feel free to Google "I think" or maybe use Siri.0
