Caught speeding - what to do.

No idea, perhaps they took a dislike to you, not sure how that's possible.:D
So based on your understand who would be offered a course?
There is no like or dislike, the speed was either inside the limit for a course or not. End of debate. Same for the OP, he either gets one or not, he can't ask for one, can't demand one.
If he was going to get one he would already have been told. In my experience.
In my limited experience (with the Met (36 in 30), with Essex (42 in a 30) all Forces are different as I have already said) they seem to stick to ACPO.
My speed awareness course that I did complete was for 56 in a 50 limit, ACPO would be 57mph so it seems to fit. Again this was Met and at the course everybody was caught on the newly installed Average cameras on the A13 in Dagenham. I don't know what other people where doing or if they were more lenient back then as Speed Awareness course where pretty new then.
I can only post from personal experience and what I am told by people that know more than me, which would include those running the Speed Awareness course.
And yes I did ask if they used APCO guidelines on my course, the person wasn't a Policeman and couldn't be 100% but said he believed so.
Take that how you want.
Agree, disagree I am not hat bothered to be fair.
None of my info is from a Google search or rumour.
It's from my personal experience
Would my opinion and experience carry more weight if I made up a little table?
If you chose to break a speed limit you have to take it in the chin.
My Licence was clean for nearly 23 years when I got caught on the Scooter.
Big wow, I broke a speed limit and got caught.
So did the OP.
You take your chances.0 -
So explain how I didn't get offered a course for 36 in a 30?
Reread my post and get somebody to help you understand the written word a bit better.
You do realise you can't actually be wrong when voicing an opinion don't you?
It is and remains my opinion
What is your rank in the Police?
I assume you work in the department that deals with speeding offence so and speed awareness courses?
As that is the only way you can definitively say my opinion is incorrect.
If what you actually mean really meant was you have a different opinion then that is what you should have said.
Then put forward EVIDENCE to show why your opinion differs.
As I have already said my opinion is based on the fact I wasn't offered a course for 36 in a 30.
I did get 3 points for 41 (might have been 42) in a 30 on my Scooter.(back in 2012)
So why wasn't I given a course then?
Based on my experience the table above and you are wrong.
Seems strange that you state I am wrong (apparently not for the first time) but in my limited dealings I am 100% spot on.
Feel free to Google "I think" or maybe use Siri.
It's not for mercdriver to explain, you were within the threshold for a course.
If it were some years ago it may have been before the national scheme was introduced.
By the way ACPO no longer exist.0 -

You quote the met police a lot but have never been in, so not exactly personal experience is it?0 -
I think you can only do one speed awareness course, so would the fact that you had one already mean you got the points/fine rather than a course?
Just a thought.0 -

My God. Do you really need to have a huge rant every time you are told you are wrong? In England and Wales (my source is pepipoo where this has been stated by people in the police, lawyers and people working for safety camera partnerships) the guidance is that people driving at up to but not including the speed limit +10% +9 will generally be offered a place on a speed awareness course.
So the OP was caught at 27 in a 20. To have no action taken he needs to have been doing 23.99mph (they round DOWN). Above that is enforced, so 24 and above. For a course up to and including 30.99 a course will usually be offered. Thee is a higher limit for a fixed penalty as shown in the tables above.
There are exclusions. Not every police force offers them, and not every police force is signed up to the national scheme. The +10% +9 rule has been given on pepipoo by people who run the courses and who are in the position to know.
If the OP offended in one of the very few areas that don't offer courses, then he will usually be offered a fixed penalty. If the area isn't in the national scheme but does offer courses then he will either need to take the fixed penalty or travel to the area where the offence took place.
There is no right to a course or a fixed penalty. They are discretionary, but it is very unusual not to be offered one or both especially from an automatic camera. Giving bad attitude to a policeman might persuade him that you wouldn't benefit from the course.
By the way Bigji if you weren't always so aggressive and obnoxious in your tone, you would gain a lot more respect on these boards.0 -

Mercdriver wrote: »you can only do one speed awareness course every 3 years. This is taken from the offence date.
It's taken from the date of the course.

Yes should have been clearer - Any subsequent offence has to be 3 years or more from the previous course date. If your offence date is 12.08.16 and your NIP comes on 20.08.16 and your previous course was on 17.08.13 you would be out of luck.0 -

Who said I post for respect?
I post honestly and usually from experience
