Car Service Plan
Hi, I have a car service plan with Vaxhuall (I have a Corsa) where I pay a little every month towards my service and MOT for the year rather than pay for it in one big chunk at the time of the service. This also made the service and MOT cheaper overall. I needed to use the Vauxhall dealership for my service anyway as I had…

Damage to brakes caused by garage neglegence
Hi, I've posted this on another forum but thought here might be a better place! I have a mazda 6 auto 2007, most years I've had it it's been serviced by a local garage (not main dealer). Car was serviced & MOTed last month. A couple of days ago we heard a noise from a rear wheel when braking so we took it by the garage for…

non vat receipts from petrol stations - why
Been buying fuel for many years, and still get the odd retailer, who when you pay they give you a card receipt, and then you have to ask for a VAT receipt for those who need them. My question - Why don't they just give you the VAT receipt at the beginning. Are they saving money on the paper?

Nicked from garden of terraced house overlooked by dozens of houses in broad daylight. How have some people got the bottle to do that? must have been loaded into a van or something &…

Beware of Hastings Direct
BEWARE Hastings Direct. My Daughter and Grandaughter were involved in a minor collision with what can only be described as an insurance scammer who claimed injuries and even changed the gender of the passenger inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. Despite having witnesses Hastings Direct found my Daughter at…

Is this police camera van illegaly parked?
Anyone local in liverpool will know this road. Just after u leave Jericho lane going towards city centre you enter a two mile no stopping zone. Anyway a police camera van was parked off the road on the grass doing his duty. If you got caught could you argue he was parked illegally in a no stopping zone? Didn't get caught…

Tyres with cracks between tread (photo)
I've just had my winter tyres removed and noticed this cracking in the rubber on one of them. The sidewall is fine and it holds air with no issues. The other 3 seem ok, certainly nothing obvious like this one has. It says '4610' on them so I assume they were manufactured in 2010? I bought them in November 2011. I had hoped…

Hiring a car from a friend
A friend (here in Italy) has very kindly offered to lend me his car for three weeks while he's away. I will be covered by his insurance. I have an annual car excess insurance (taken out in the UK). I was wondering if he rented me his car for a nominal amount (say 1 euro a day) then if I was unfortunate enough to have an…

Get parents to drive uninsured car while travelling
hi. I am going travelling for 5 months, and rather than leaving my car sat on my parents drive for that time I thought I would get my parents to drive it every now and then to keep it ticking over to avoid all the issues that may come with leaving a car unused for 5 months. If I leave my car at my parents, uninsured by me,…

Help with Rav-4 2002/3 stereo wiring
Hello Could any of you clever people advise what this connection contains? For the photo below, Im assuming this is the live and switched live to the right (possibly also ground) and the speaker connections to the left? Trying to connect an aftermarket head unit and the first connection is what is confusing, the…

Personalised registration assigned while car being repaired
Hi - bit of a conundrum. Bought car 2 weeks ago, as part of deal, they said I could come back and they would get private plates made up and put on, once I got the paperwork sorted. So sent everything off to the DVLA the same day I bought it. On the same day, after picking it up, someone spun off a road into our driveway…

Personal Leases - Experiences ?
Hello All, There seems to be a lot of deals about at the moment for the various personal leases (usually involve paying a deposit, a monthly fee and then an optional final payment). Does anybody have any personal experience with these ? My big concern is that when you hand the car back, the dealer with find £'000's of…

Car Problems
I bought my first car on the 23rd of December and it ran fine for the first couple of months but last week I started having a problem where when doing a cold start the engine is cutting out when I am idling between gears until the engine has heated up a bit and then it runs fine. Anyway I'm not looking for car advice,…

Halfords Stirling damaged my car during an MOT
I thought the days of really dodgy car garages had passed, you know the ones where they rip your wiper blades to try and get you to pay £20 for new ones and report faults on your car that ant there. Well it hasn't as I've just been to the halfords autocentre in Stirling for an MOT and one of the reasons that it failed is…

MoneySavingExpert Insert May 16: Is your Driving Licence valid? Check our Is your Driving Licence valid? guide to see. Back to slinga's original post...
