Help with 2nd hand cars
I know this might be a 'swings and roundabouts' kind of question but advice gratefully received I currently drive a 2003 Vauxhall Corsa 1.7tdi which has 45k on the clock. I've been offered a good condition, well looking after, 2007 vauxhall corsa petrol with 70k on the clock. The question is, barring anything obvious,…

Used Car Warranty Issue
I bought a used car at the end of last month. On looking over the car it appeared to have been in a few scrapes but looked like it had received good quality repairs. It drove like new on the test drive, i took it on some city roads & on the motorway. Over the last week it seems to have developed a steering problem. When i…

Best way to store a car over winter?
Recently bought an old E36 328 convertible. Now that it's fixed my plan is to use it over summer, store over winter, then sell in the spring. But what is the best way to store it without causing damage/costing money? Pump the tyres up to 50psi? Buy a set of steelies and remove the alloys and lay them flat? Put it up on…

Used car refund?
Hi, I was hoping someone could give me some advise. My wife and I bought a used car (a 2006 mazda 1.8 mpv) last week from a trader. He advertised the car as being mechanically 100% and it looked and drove great when we went to test drive it. We traded in our old car and paid a deposit then picked the car up a couple of…

Ford KA creaking
It's 2003, recently been in for a full service, but since then, about 3 weeks, there has been a worsening creaking noise when driving. It sounds like old bed springs. :( Initially it seemed to appear over the front left side, now it seems both sides, and to me sounds horrendous in the car, have no idea what it sounds like…

New Car 1st Tax renewal query?
Hi all, Bit miffed with my first post and can't seem to find any help online. Bought a new car last year and was sold as 119gm/kg emissions, in the tax band at £30. My renewal has just come through, stating that my emissions are 129gm/kg and now in the £110 band! What should I be doing to confirm what tax band I…

I'm going to buy a van tomorrow which I will be taking to have converted to a horsebox in a few weeks. I need insurance to get it and drop it off and then while it is undergoing conversion. I presume all insurance companies will charge an early termination fee, would this be a standard industry charge or are all companies…

Replacement car advise?
Hi folks, Recently I started a new job. My daily commute means I'll be driving somewhere in the region of 30,000-35,000 miles per year (taking into regular account weekend driving as well). I currently drive a VW Passat 2.0 Petrol (03 plate). It's a good car, but just too thirsty. After driving extremely conservatively…

Should we buy a new Toyota Auris Hybrid?
Time is short due to work etc , but I would be very grateful for any thoughts on whether we should buy a new Auris hybrid, so we don't make a mistake. Husband works in surrey, and we live in devon, he does nearly 500 miles per week. At the moment we have a 10 year old Rav4, which we paid 5k for 6 months ago, and has been…

Are Winter tyres considered a modification?
Just a random thought (I do realise this is the middle of June!!). Would fitting winter tyres on non standard wheels (on steelies or cheap alloys) be considered a modification for insurance purposes? Lets assume that the wheels are 1" smaller than the wheels for summer tyres (as winter tyres generally aren't available in…

used car under 3.5k, ideas please?
Hi guys, Currently got my car for sale and looking to get a cheaper car to pocket the difference (for a deposit on a house). Not sure what to get in all honesty. Needs to be very reliable as I've got my first child on the way so don't want mammoth repair bills a few months down the line. Wouldn't mind a bit of power but…
