Hi I have a 2001 Renault Scenic which I had from new and I'm running it until its no longer worth repairing. Went to check the oil today and found the bonnet lock wont release.
I dont want to force it as it could snap the cable. I cant reach up through the grill or access it from underneath. Has anyone any ideas?

I would, but I think the problem lies at the actual bonnet catch end and I just cant access anywher near that area.0

Have you tried gently pushing the bonnet down whilst pulling the catch?

loosen off the lower bumper screws, including the ones in the arch, jack car up put on axel stands and make safe, with the bottom of the bumper loose, reach your hand in and up to the bonnet latch mechanism, smother with grease, let it penetrate for 20mins, then try the handle. if the handle is free moving but not releasing it the cable at fault, its either a 2 part cable, or all through one, from the same position as above, find the cable and pull with pliers to release the bonnet.
if a 2 part cable there a black cover in the cable linkage that joins the two together on the front panel locate it, find the one end that operates the bonnet latch pop the bonnet and then clip the pair back together making sure what undid them is moved out the way0 -

Update; I have taken tbe two grills off and managed to soak everything with WD40 and will leave it overnight. I can see where the cable enters the mechanism but cant see the actual catch.0

You need to sit on the bonnet at the front and bounce on the bonnet a bit; then try again. Works for me0
