Used Car Warranty Issue
I bought a used car at the end of last month. On looking over the car it appeared to have been in a few scrapes but looked like it had received good quality repairs. It drove like new on the test drive, i took it on some city roads & on the motorway. Over the last week it seems to have developed a steering problem.
When i bought the car it was described as in excellent condition with a main dealer FSH. It had 5 mths MOT remaining but the dealer agreed to put a new 12 mth MOT on it. I was also told that a 3 mth parts & labour warranty was included.
I have done some research on the car. It seems the particular model suffers with steering rack problems. It could cost anything between £300 - £1000 to repair. It seems that a bodge job can be done on the steering rack to make it seem fine. This will only last for a short amount of time & the steering rack will soon need to be replaced.
On close inspection on my invoice the small print states that the warranty only covers the engine & gearbox & has a £300 claim limit. Am i screwed??
It seems to me that the trader has done a bodge job on the steering rack to get the car sold. I'm also presuming he must have been friendly with the owner of the garage who put the new MOT on the car. This leads me to believe he may not be to willing to fix the fault under warranty.

No if you bought it from a trader he can't dodge his legal obligations by giving you a worthless warranty. Get it back to him asap and ask for a repair as you are entitled to.0

A couple of weeks is nowhere near enough time for the dealer to be able say it wasnt there at the time of sale - and its up to him to prove it wasnt.
Fully covered by your rights under the SOGA, and not at all related to the warranty he has put on.
Dont let him palm you off.0 -
What kind of car is it, what is the fault and what kind of bodge do you think has been done to temporarily fix knackered steering?0
