Petrol v Deisel over 15k miles
Hi, I am about to start a new job which will result in me doing around 15 thousand miles a year. I will need to buy a car on a budget of around £3000. I had only been looking at deisel cars but was offered a 1.25 litre petrol fiesta today, 05 plate, only 23,000 miles blah, blah. I was not going to consider it due to it…

I am being Criminally charged for sitting in an empty seat on a crowded train!
I have been a commuter between Chelmsford and Liverpool St. for many years. The trains have always been overcrowded, late, dirty and unreliable. The cost of commuting has spiralled out of control, way ahead of inflation and my earnings. In March of this year I was returning from a long day in the city, and boarded an…

Cambelt Change, 2months later Waterpump change. £500?
I booked my car in for a cambelt change at 80.000miles. When booking in I also reported a "rough engine" because it was making a faint grinding noise every few seconds. The mechanics failed to notice that it was the water pump and over 2 months the noise is now obvious. Its common knowledge that people often get the…

Changing tyres sizes and more agressive pattern
Just wondering if I will have any issues going from 265/60/18 to 255/60/18, and what difference if any it would make. Also what difference to normal road driving does a more aggressive tread pattern make, I'm looking at General Grabber AT, Yokohama Geolander or similar. Thanks for any help.

Recommendations for tyres?
I need two new front tyres, am broke, and remember the fiasco my car was in the snow where it was close to useless. Does anyone know of any good budget tyres that would also make my c3 picasso a bit more use in winter weather or would I need specific winter tyres/chains/autosocks? Many thanks.

Court Summons for No Road Tax
Okay, I was a bit of an idiot and forgot to renew my car tax. Mitigating circumstances are that the reminder went to my old address 3 weeks after we moved (DVLA confirmed they got change of address a couple of weeks after sending out reminder). Anyway, car was clamped when out shopping so I had to pay £260 to get it…

AA cashback via Quidco
In case anyone is looking to join the AA via quidco and want more than just the basic breakdown cover here is what I found. I wanted cover for myself in any vehicle with recovery but no home start. This came to £69 which meant Quidco cashback of only £24 rather than £42 for transactions over £75. I decided to try doing…

Options for scrapping a car
I posted on here a few days ago about my go's corsa and the cam belt going. Turns out she hadn't got a clue what she was talking about and it isn't under warranty. Anyway, we're looking at scrapping the car now through a company called cartakeback which from the looks of it seems very good, with all good mentions on this…

Reading Bus Lane Scam traps Thousands
In order to plug the black hole in its finances, Reading has public sated that it will recoup the shortfall by targeting motorists, and appears to be placing revenue collection above the free flow of traffic and the legitimate access by private motorist to some of the roads which they have paid for. One bus lane alone,…

recommendations for car sat nav
morning, can anyone recommend a car satnav/brand, it is a gift for my mum who will only need a fairly basic model for UK driving but im trying to balance cost vs quality - i would prefer to not pay extra for 'fancy' functions that she wont use but happy to pay for something that will last that is relatively straightforward…

Car Insurance Extra Charges
I just called my insurance company to price up a new car I've just bought. As it is a new car they said my existing policy wouldn't cover it and they'd have to quote me for a different insurance plan. As we went through the details, i was asked about convictions and told them about my SP30 from 4 years ago and he said they…

Used car of non satisfactory quality + faults
Hi, I am in the middle of a complaint with a dealer and I'm not sure which way to follow. I would like to receive legal help for this but am not sure where could I get it for (yeah that word that shouldn't go with "legal") free. I have bought a car less than 1 month ago and this proved to have various problems: the diver's…

AA membership up for renewal, best option?
My AA membership is up for renewal in about a week. I just have the basic roadside cover, which I took out with a good cashback offer. The best cashback I can find at the moment is the AA through Quidco, but I guess I couldn't use that even if I cancel this policy and start again? Apart from that it looks like the RAC…

Petrol Prices Revisited!
I know this subject has been visited many times and probably done to death but why, when oil is as cheap as it has been in weeks, is petrol not coming down in price again? I am aware that quite a large proportion of the cost of fuel is in tax and that Dollar exchange rates can affect things but this doen't account entirely…

Zafira Spanner Light?
This problem started a couple of months ago, sods law a few days after the warranty expired. Basically some times when you start the car a spanner light comes on, if it flashes the car won't start, you have to take the keys out and try again, if it stays on the car will start but you have no power. It has also on occasion…
