Zafira Spanner Light?

This problem started a couple of months ago, sods law a few days after the warranty expired.

Basically some times when you start the car a spanner light comes on, if it flashes the car won't start, you have to take the keys out and try again, if it stays on the car will start but you have no power.

It has also on occasion come on when driving and we've had to stop, take the keys out and try again.

Anyone any ideas? Its an 07/08 diesel. A guy at work says I could try disconnecting the battery over night to reset everything.

    if it is the little one on odometer but the orange light with spanner on it is the SVS light, similar to the EML but emissions specific on the vauxhauls.

    Taking the battery of will do nothing, this is obdii it has its own memory.
    It needs to go to a garage for battery/ earthing and then Obdii tests.
    usually it is one of the sensors on the exhaust.

    Yes the manual says something about emissions. Is it an expensive job to fix?

    if you have some minor mechanical knowledge, a spanner or two and access to a OBDii code reader then probably not.
    If it is a gas sensor they are around £45-£65 to buy and take a few minutes to fit.
    however, clean the air filter first, it is autumn it could have sucked a leaf

    just looked at my manual and yes its the immobiliser . the light with the engine on is the one that youve looked at.
  • The spanner light in all vauxhalls is the "servicing" indicator. It would suggest that your car requires a service.
    If you have recently had a service then hold down the odemeter button while turning on the engine and this will reset the flashing light.
    Or just pop into vauxhall and they will reset the service spanner light for you.

    Spanner = ECU warning ;)

    Spanner + Oil can = Service light :o

    Spanner + rear view mirror = Driver :rotfl:
