Car Write Off ?

Hi, Just wanting some Advice. I was involved in a Car Accident on Friday after another Motorist was Speeding and came into my Path causing me to take evasive action and hit a wall head on. He did not stop therefore i am having to claim from my own insurance company.

The car was towed away by the Police and was stored in their compound for 1 night before being recovered by my insurance company.

I have had a couple of quotes both of which have come in at just under £8,500. I am wanting to know if my Insurance Company (Ad....l) are likely to repair or write the car off. No Structural Damage from what i can work out just lots of parts, labour & VAT. They have Supplied me with a Loan Vehicle costing them £15.00 a day from the hire agreement form i have signed up to a Maximum of 21 Days.

So the car was Purchased for just over £14,000 (Inc Big Discount) Brand New just under a Year Ago on a PCP Deal. The Glass Guide now puts the car around the 10,000 Mark.

Car is a 2010 (60) VW Polo, TSI SEL, Under 10,000 Miles, Some Extra's

What would you expect to be the Outcome ?

    Hmmm.

I'd say Glasses Guide price is going to be around £8,500 as they seem to be retailing for £11,000+

Therefore, i think they'll write it off.

Any idea how much you owe on the car?

Sorry to hear of your predicament, I hope you were ok? the car can be replaced.

I can't see them paying £8,500 to repair a £10,000 car, so I suspect they will write it off.

You need to add the police tow, storage, hire car costs, and maybe damage to the wall on as well, so repair looks unlikely.

Most insurers will replace a car under 1 year old with a new one, you really want to push for this if possible.
  • Hi, Thanks for all the Replies.

Does anyone have access to Glass Guide/Parkers etc ?

Well i think all in they are Probably Going to be looking at £9,000 ish +/-

Unfortunately Ad____l don't offer a New for Old on Cars under a Year however as it was purchased on a PCP i thankfully took out GAP Insurance which will pay off the outstanding finance and return the deposit etc back to me, so i can try purchase another vehicle should they write it off. The Impression i got from the CSR in the call centre was as it was a new car etc they would probably try to keep it on the road and repair it ... however i am worried about how this will affect my PCP Agreement at the end of the term and re-sale values etc.

Dont use Parkers, its not going to be reflective of actual prices.

Try glass's website - they will give you an accurate valuation for i think £2.50 or something like that. You can then use that as 'evidence' to your cars value should it come to that.

£12k to pay you to get a replacement, £8.2k to fix it. Throw in some risk of undiscovered damage plus car hire etc and I’m guessing they will write it off.

Also, don’t forget if they pay out £12k they then get to sell the salvage on to someone who will repair it which will reduce the actual cost to them.

Recovery costs etc don’t come into it as they have to be paid whether it gets repaired or written off.

I would check the price on auto trader too, as we did that with our car insurance company and got an extra £1800 ontop of the price that they orginally quoted to us.

If the repair damage was say £4k they would still probably write it off, the last thin the insurers want as vaio alluded to is more work than originally budgeted for or the customer isn't happy.

If as you think the damage is mainly panel work then it will be highly sought as salvage wherby the new buyer would use second hand panels which of course an insurer can't really do.

YOU DO NOT WANT IT BACK!

What moe can we/you do at this stage. Just wait untithe assesor has had a look and tells you his thoughts.

If he decides to repair you have way over estimated the damage.
