Petrol Prices Revisited!

I know this subject has been visited many times and probably done to death but why, when oil is as cheap as it has been in weeks, is petrol not coming down in price again?

I am aware that quite a large proportion of the cost of fuel is in tax and that Dollar exchange rates can affect things but this doen't account entirely for the lack of movement in fuel prices, does it?

I would be interested in your thoughts:beer:

It is simple. There is nothing set in stone which says the price of petrol has to follow the price of crude.

Because the oil companies are screwing us up the !!!!, but its really great that they are making money as its very tricky to extract oil and they deserve it?

The same cannot be said for across the pond,i was in florida last couple of weeks and there was a big piece on NBC or whatever the channel was about the price of "gas"coming down as the cost of crude is falling lately.

when i was there cheapest i paid for regular unleaded was $3.31 a gallon,so not only is it cheaper over there to start with the benefits are past on when the cost to make the stuff falls.

cannot blame our gov this time its a case of oil companies keeping our prices high to subsidise the people across the pond i reckon?

Most people seem to have lost interest and accept that it is inevitable the fuel prices will go up regardles of whether oil is going up or down. The same can be said for gas and electricity.
If nobody complains or comments anymore then the oil companies will continue to raise prices and it is not particularly in the interests nor is it in their remit for the Government to intervene.
Apathy is a wonderful thing:D but I guess there is so much not right about this country at moment that people have many other things to worry about!

Plus, of course, there is literally nothing we can do about it.

Nothing we can do about the price, but you can do lots about your fossil fuel usage.

and they also have to sell the expensive stock before they start selling the newer cheaper stock.

Going slightly off topic for a moment. I do everything I can to "save the planet" by using as little gas and electric as possible and by much recycling. However, I live in a rural area(my choice) where public transport is terrible. I have to use the car to go shopping/see relatives and friends but still only do about 5000 miles per year.

I stand by my original statement that fuel is too expensive for no good reason other than profits for the fat cats.

Even if fuel went up to £10 a gallon(which it probably will soon), those driving their Chelsea tractors will still fill their gas guzzling tanks up thus increasing the gap between the ordinary person on the street and the wealthy.

Perhaps naively, I am just looking for a fair deal from the oil companies.

well lets be honest, when you take the 80p out that goes to the goverment; it doesn't leave a massive amount for everybody else.
