LPG or Oil
Hi Just looking for advice We have just brought a small mobile home and at present it has oil heating and water boiler. We wondering if we would be better with a LPG combi boiler instead or is it cheaper to continue with the oil. The issue we have with the oil is that we got a water tank in our kitchen that takes up a lot…

Woodburner stoves in kws
Have been told i can have either a 4 or 5kw stove fitted. I have seen some advertised which say 5kW Nominal, 6.5kW Max. As it would need to be under 5kw to avoid any additional venting, does this qualify or is it really a 6.5kw. Some models don't say this just a standard 5kw, is there anything i should look out for before…

Wood burner - no chimney ?
We're in a village with no mains gas, everyone has oil heating which is getting pretty expensive. I've been toying with the idea of getting a wood-burning stove / fire installed - I'm friendly with a couple of local farmers, so could get hold of free logs - free heating, yee-hay ! Only problem is, our house is quite modern…

Woodburner regs
Hi, I have an Aga Little Wenlock, fitted by myself a few years ago and working very well. I have been under the impression that this woodburner was below the heat output requiring a purpose made vent (or whatever the air supply thing is called), which I thought was around 5kw (the aga being a lttle below, purposely to…

4-5kw double door multi fuel stove recommendations
Have had a hetas installer round and now looking to purchase a 4 or 5kw double door multi fuel stove which will be fitted with a flue liner. Due to the fireplace being a corner one i have noticed most doors open on the left hand side and this would not be ideal for the layout of the room. There are a few right handed…

Recommended Electric Panel Heaters
Hi, I have read lots of threads on this forum and learnt that expensive so called economy electric heating is a load of old tosh because a £10 heater will produce the same amount of heat as a £500 heater. So I am very grateful for that knowledge, thank you. I want to put a modern electric heating system into my 2 bed flat…

Night storage or central heating?
We move into our first house tomorrow and I have a question about radiators. The house has a combi boiler which heats the hot water and radiators downstairs. The 3 upstairs rooms are heated by night storage heaters but a plumber friend said the boiler could support more radiators upstairs and that he would install them at…

Hello! We have just sold our house and have found another that we love out in the back of beyond. It has oil heating and we have never known anything but gas before! The owners say it costs 1500-1600 per year (three fills) to heat a house with 4 people but has low ceilings (4 bed, no aga) Boiler is reasonably old (about…

how much energy needed to heat water?
How much energy, in kWhs, will it take to heat an insulated water cylinder of 115 litres from 15 deg C to 60 deg C, using either a 3 kWh immersion heater or a gas water heater with an (input or ouput ?) of 4.5 kWh? The answer does not need to be overcomplicated, an approximation, in kWhs will be sufficient.

central heating cover
Hi all, I've got a problem with my boiler which is covered by a central heating policy which until recently has always worked well (the cover and the boiler). Since may 21st we've had the engineers out 14 times and we're still without hot water/heating. They have replaced all sorts of pumps, gaskets and circutboards, but…

How much to convert to a Combi Boiler?
I moved into a new house last Nov in the middle of a cold spell so thought it prudent to have the central heating system re-commissioned and serviced by qualified engineers.
